i have an 08 american standard and it is a great guitar! no problems, and everything feels right. that being said, each guitar will vary slightly, and the only way to get the right opinion about a guitar is to go play one your self.

Tanner, does your 2008 have that microtilt screw feature in the neckplate as evidenced by the telltale screw hole.

I have a 2010 amer. stndrd strat. that I've now had for just over a week.
No complaints so far, though I am tempted to tinker with the pups.

IIRC, 2008 was the year that Fender introduced some very nice design improvements to the Strat. I don't have one but I should think it would be better than an 07 (on average... as mentioned above, they are ALL different however).

Its a great guitar and you'll be happy if you buy it. As long as its not all dinged up, you should be golden!

Thanks, guys...appreciate it.

I bought one in February, 2008...looks just like my avatar - 3-tone burst, rosewood fretboard.

Now I'm jones-ing for an Eric Johnson 2-tone burst with a maple fretboard!

Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrgggg! I've got G.A.S.!!!!!!!!

I own a 2010 am. std. one, but its the same design as the 08. It is a great guitar, with great action. Neck feels great, stays in tune, pickups sound good.

Buy the rosewood fretboard.

I love my 08. I also, think that the maple fretboard is the way to go on a fender. Classic fender look to me, and rw from Fender seems wrong and looks wrong to me. In general though I prefer rw fingerboards. But the Fenders have the advantage of being a one piece neck. You compromise that with a rw fretboard, because the maple has to be thinned and the rosewod gets glued on.
