Great thread, actually caused me to join a forum! Couldn't help but keep looking at that rear trem rout on that Rondo body. (sorry--the newby's a little late on the post) curious if you ever tried to place a backcover over that rout? (If you were planning on using one) I'd be surprised if there were no gaps.

Good Stuff...

As long as it definitely is urethane and not polyester, you should be fine. The chemical reaction of the cellulose will bond to the urethane. Fender's American Vintage Reissue guitars have a polyurethane undercoat. They spray cellulose ontop of that. I would only go lightly with the sanding if I were you.
Ceri and Twelvebar are far more experienced with that stuff than I.

Good point. How could I tell whether its polyurethane versus polyester.. Is there a way to know just by looking at it?

Yeah, I did place one over the rear trem rout. It covers it, but I gotta admit I wasn't sure the string tunnels on the trem block would line up with the holes on the backplate...

It'll be urethane. I'm not aware of anyone using polyester on necks. That's not absolutely catagorical - but it's a pretty safe bet.

I'd be using something around a P300 paper for this initial sanding. If you get any runs or orange peel then the same paper is good for taking those back.

Cheers - C

OK cool -- Thanks, Ceri -- that's what I'll roll with.

The body's on order -- went with the mighty mite unfinished ash. Hoping for a body right at 4 lbs or less. Here a little teaser for y'all:

My headstock decal next to my 70's HS...

So we're spinning our wheels on this build waiting for Kozy's body to arrive, got 2 weeks left on Kongs and Andy's off to work....

Man, what happened to all these build threads :)

Can't wait for your body to arrive Koz, looking forward to the next step :)

PS When you said you've made the decal yourself did you actually do all the graphic art, find the typeface, do the curvyness and then print it onto a proper sticker? or did you design it and send it off to get printed?

I did the graphic design -- in Adobe Illustrator...

Took a photo of an actual headstock logo and laid it side by side on the virtual work area and drew the decal by hand on the computer.

What I have in the photo is a just paper print out. My plan is to get it printed on special laser friendly decal paper. Should be no problem to do it myself with the hi-res color laser printer at home.

Yeah -- I can't wait to get the new body. I'll be back double checking on how to rig up the neck and bridge as soon and I can lay it all out on the table.. :D
