Awesome!

Man I bet that feels good right now!

I'm guessing that the Kozy & Co will bring her home beautifully!

deepest bows towards that decal, too!

Thank you, sir!

It feels good. I've hit a few snags on this project. Nice to hit a high water mark :D

It sure looks like a mighty big wave you've struck there. A well-made decal adds so much I find - and yours is great! I wish I had the skills for a design like that. All I got is a cut-out printed piece of white paper saying "Blackadder" glossed over- and now the guitar isn't even black anymore 'cause I sanded off the poly!! Alas...

Yours however, is SERIOUSLY COOL! 8)

Thanks Dan!

Moving along (at a snail's pace...). Working with a test strip of maple to get a feel for the neck tint.. I sealed the maple with lacquer sealer, sanded and applied about 4 coats of the tint from approx 12 inches. My goal is to replicate the look of an aged mid 70's neck. Looks pretty good...

Image

If the weather cooperates, I'll try to tint the neck tommorrow :D , misting the coats so as not to disturb the decal (had I been thinking I would have put a decal on the test strip -- Ahh, hindsight....)

BTW, Kozy Sr. is working on the grain filling -- Being extra careful not to mishandle the body ("not to worry" -- I keep on tellin' him :P ). Theres' a reason why he's so good at this stuff. He's an expert at taking the time to do it right 8) .

My goal was to have the body finished and curing by Labor Day. Guess I need a few more weekends. The end goal would be to have this guitar ready for a late October gig

Here's the neck with the tint. I'm happy with how it came out :D

The one thing I guessed would happen is the gold colored frets. Hoping the tint comes off fairly easily. I really do not want to lacquer over the frets like this. Thinking maybe careful use of steel wool would solve the problem...

Wow, this is looking too good...Like a real Stratocaster-frankinsteinocaster. The tint looks very vintage and it was a good call putting it over the decal.

That's why this place is the best. I was gonna put the decal over the tint until Ceri put me on the path to righteousness :)

At least for now, everything I'm doing is a step forward and not back. Hell, we might just have us a new guitar soon

Maybe 10 years from now this guitar will show up on eBay and then make its way to this forum and we can have long discussions on if it is a real or fake Fender, while eating Marmite on toast, rabbit on a bob, and drinking something cold, ALL with a smile on our faces.....

That would be funny. My son already has staked a claim to it. Hopefully he doesn't sell it on eBay once I'm gone. It'll be a one of a kind, unless somebody makes off with my extra decals...

Kozy, that looks stunning! A nice finish for that neck!

I don't think I'd use steel wool, though. I feel it's hard to control & might make little scratches in between frets.
I'm not sure how long it needs to cure but I'd go either for an exacto knife (either sides of fret a careful incision) or fingernail or piece of plastic, to go along each fret. The lacquer should chip off the metal easily.

But I'm sure Ceri, as the Master he is, will have a much better idea. Ceri?

Thanks for the high praise..

Since there is no lacquer coats yet, maybe I can fashion a scraper of some sort from an old charge plate, perhaps. I'll tinker a bit with it.

Now, if Mr. C has a tried-and-true method, I'd be willing to give that a run... :D
