2 things

1) Bass players, sons (or daughters) of bitches, it's always the damn bass player!
2) How did I miss all the Beer + Guitar talk? where the hell was I? Damn it!

Still, get that sealer on there nice and tight Kozy :) Andy say's sanding is therapeutic, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Me however.... god I hate it. God's speed!

LOL. I play bass too, but I'm a guitar player first -- after all it is much more fun 8)

I put half a can of sealer on this puppy yesterday. Sanded and sanded and that grain is still showing -- guess I'm gonna need to give it another good spray down...

You can tape a piece of thread (about 3' long) dead center between the 2nd and 3rd fret and pull it parallel down the fret board centering it with each dot marker across the pickups and taping it again at the butt of the body to give you the side to side for the bridge. Use the other info already posted on setting bridge length, he's correct.

Been doing a LOT of sanding on the body. Stone boring stuff. Off to Lowes to pick up more sealer and cans of clear lacquer. These are the dog days of the project. :D

Very Cool! Are you going to lacquer over this after you apply it? LOL! Love it!

Thanks Gents!

My plan is to apply a 2-3 coats of lacquer on the neck and sand smooth. Then apply the neck amber to the desired vintage tint.

At that point I was going to apply the decal. Then the several coats of clear lacquer.

The question I have: Does it make more sense to apply the decal before the neck amber?

cheers -- Kozy

Impressive! By the way.... My legal eagle friend had to pass judgement on the artwork for a $500 million project by a major corporate client which was just sitting in the wings awaiting his OK and he nixed it! Apparently there was no way that it couldn't be confused with a competitor. Six hours later, and with his help, they re-worked it into a form which he was comfortable with. When it goes public, I let you know.

Hi Kozy: in short, yes. The point of the amber is to emulate the effect of aging, yellowing lacquer. Presuming you want your guitar to look like one where the lacquer was applied over the decal then the amber needs to be over it too.

Unless you want it to look like a '50s Fender, that is. As we know, with those the decal was on top of the lacquer, so that is what you'd do in that case. Not the way I'd go, though...

Keep up the good work! We're all watching and enjoying! :D

Cheers - C

Thank you kind sir ! There's a vintage ale here with your name on it, Ceri 8) !

Been moving a bit slower than I'd like on the project --- But talking with my partner in crime Mr. Kozy Sr., he is fighting a fit of boredom this week. Requested I let him work on finishing the grain filling on the body... Whew, I said YES, of course.. :D. (He's got more time to fuss with it, plus he's a genius 8) as I’ve noted, when it comes to the wood working...)

Since I'm freed up a bit, I'll be moving on to the neck finishing. If the weather is fairly dry tonight I can start with a little base lacquer, something for the decal to adhere to…

Howdy Kozy!

Love the decals! Very cool. 8)

I reckon you should get Kozy Sr to make a few templates of your strat for a future project maybe.....I grantee that will kill a few hours for him and its much more fun than sanding sealer :D

Andy

I may be able to talk him into that -- right up his alley, it is :D

I think my next project should be Tele with a Bigsby and a filtertron neck pup 8)

From the junior guitar luthier news desk:

The decal is on the headstock  . It took a couple try to get it on without bending, buckling or creasing (glad I made a whole page of these.... :D )

Image

Next step -- Tint.... 8)

BTW, Had a production meeting with our Director of Manufacturing, Kozy Sr. Seems the grains on the body are just to dang deep to fill w/o grain filler. So I'm off to the wood store to buy me some water based filler (in the AM).

Decal looks great!! (I'm giggling  )
