Interestingly enough, Berry's "Sweet Little Sixteen" precurses the Beach Boy's Surfin' USA.

Of course! It was written years before the BB's sought fit to 'borrow'the music for their new lyrics. They ultimately paid a million dollars to Berry for the priviledge, so the story goes.
On the subject of the post, you should read Tom Wheeler's "The Stratocaster Chronicles''. We consider it the definite work on the guitar.

The words "strato" and "sonic" were both buzz-words reflecting the cutting-edge advantage in the post-WWII aerospace industry that the US enjoyed pretty much exclusively at the time of the Stratocaster's development. It's not surprising that Leo chose that name for his latest guitar creation and would later adopt the term "sonic" as well for many other guitar and amp designs.

As for the Stratojet/Stratofortress debate, I'll take the B-47 any day......one of the most graceful aircraft ever developed.

Just to expand a little on the "US enjoyed pretty much exclusively...". The first production commercial jet liner to fly was the Brittish de Haviland Comet followed 13 days later by the Canadian AVRO Jetliner. So I agree, pretty much, but not exclusively, for what its worth.

Strats are fine guitars and a great name.

The sad part about this, is that many americans in recent history had been quite proud of America insisting on made in usa, usa #1 etc, without america blah blah.
Truth of the matter is the masters of the industrial revolution weren't strictly americans as they were descendants from other nations. the machines that made the US the giant it became were made invented and made by hard working people having the natural craftsman predisposition of their forebears who came from the likes of the UK, Germany, Italy, France.
The Chinese are quite brilliant in that they are a nation of producers and not consumers (though that "may" change) as had become the US.
