He had several Strats. This article offers a rare glimpse at some details of the last Stratocaster.

Here is Buddy's Magnatone Custom 280 Hi-Fidelity. Most likely the amp
the guitar, linked above, was plugged into.

Very interesting. His first strats and his les paul are probably owned by someone who doesn't even know it was Buddy's...

Can you imagine possessing one of the stolen Buddy Holly Strats thinking it's a) a nice old guitar, b) ought to be worth some money, c) Nahhh
Or
Possessing one of the stolen guitars and finding out years later you bought it from a pawn shop who bought it from someone who bought it from someone else who won it in a card game from someone who got from someone who owed him money who just happens to be the uncle of the kid who stole it from Buddy.

You find this out after finding out from someone who, happens to know the guitars serial numbers from extensive research and tells you that you own a stolen guitar and suggests you turn it in to authorities.

Oddly, IF the stolen guitars were ever found, it could be that they would be worth some serious dollars on the open market. As is, those guitars may well be black market collectibles in the hands of filthy wealthy characters who trade such paraphenalia as a twisted hobby.
Also, it could be that the serial # were sanded off or necks were thrown away and replaced with another neck.

Maybe someone knows what is known about the guitars a lot more than this speculative theory.

This is so very cool - thanks for sharing. I just started playing "Peggy Sue" out of the blue a week or so ago. What a fun song!

Sure thing, I recorded a short variation of the instrumental break and posted it on youtube.

I used to have a 53 Caddy that looked like the one in the video clip

Darn thing is, I was reading about "The Curse of Buddy Holly"
http://www.angelfire.com/music5/archive ... holly.html

When I was introduced to Buddy Holly, I was introduced to Rock & Roll
and the Stratocaster.

I've wanted sunburst strat for a long time. Buddy is the only artist whom
I associate with that paint scheme, even though others have used it too.
Now I just got my first Fender AM STNDRD Strat last fri. Was it sunburst
NOoooooooo it is the Black and White model 706 - very unusual color, I think.

Be sure to take notes and pictures if he'll let you.
Reminds me of Shot Jackson in a way - Shot's the man behind Willie Nelson's guitar as well as the establishment associated with Clapton's Blackie.

That would be great to see some pics.
Don't forget to take pics of the McDonalds down the street.
I hear a lot of Gruhn customers get a cheeseburger with the change
they have left when leaving Gruhn's.

Well, that's a good thing. You certainly don't want someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

I was thinking about making my strat as versatile as I can.
Think Fender
SSS
HSS
SHS
SSH
HHS
HSH
HHH

Then
P90s
PAFs and who knows what else.

Metal Pickguards
Tooled leather pickguards
Wooden Pickguards
Variety of little tricks
All of which could be stored in individual cases in a custom made cabinet.
The idea is to keep guitar aquisition costs down. Remember, the more
guitars one has the more babysitting one has to do.

I might find another Fender neck and butcher it so it's got the scalloped neck and another that is fretless..... welll maybe.

Anyway, the point here is so I have a versatile selection without the
storage space. I'll probably have a second strat for comparison purposes
if I really do get serious with it.

The last time I heard a Magnatone amp was over 50 years ago in the original Sam Ash Store on Church Ave in Brooklyn. That amp had a vibrato circuit and a sound that has yet to be reproduced anywhere. It was the core of Bo Diddley's music.
