I have a S-S-S American Strat that I want to put a humbucker in the bridge position. I was wondering what is a better way to go? I know it will be cheaper to go with a single coil style humbucker as I wouldn't have to change the pickguard.. but do the single coil size humbuckers sound as good as a tradtional humbucker? I want something that will deliver nice thick tone for rock/hard rock/alternative.

Thanks,
John

I've heard nothing but good reviews about the Duncan stacked humbucker and it drops right in without having to mod or replace your pickguard.

I've used Hot Rails, Lil 59's and JB JR's in the past with absolutely no complaints. The Hot Rails are super high output though, so not knowing what kind of music you play, it might be too much. If you're more of a blues style player, the Lil '59 is right up your alley :) They drop right in to your pg with no modification required.

I'm looking for something for more aggressive playing styles. I have seveal other guitars for blues/jazz. Looking for something that I can get some really deep thick power cords with and sustain.

DiMarzio

Super Disortion - DP100 (traditional double wide)
or
Super Distortion S - DP218 (SSS single wide)

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Then maybe look into the Hot Rails or the Lil Screamin' Demon (the George Lynch pickup) as well.

You'd be happier with a single coil size humbucker. Full size are harder to deal with since they require high ohm pots as well as you'll need a new pickguard. The Seymour Duncun makes a really nice humbucker for that very reason.
