I'm sure a Brownie replica is on Fender's 'to do' list..

And yes, Blackie was the composite.

Not even close. I've seen that guitar on display at the EMP in Seattle. It's beat to death. Your best shot at it NOS would have been the Fullerton. I would also expect that Paul Allen, not Eric Clapton, would have to OK it's replication

I've seen Brownie there too.

How close do you think he can get without spending Tens of Thousands of Dollars? And how close does he need to get?

For less than $2K, nevin's suggestion is quite reasonable. For less than $3K, there are plenty of Custom Shop early '50's reissues that would be closer.

The "signature" Brownie would be an EC model in tobacco sunburst finish. Actually Eric's personal guitars use the same finishes as his cars. He opted for a tobacco sunburst '56 for a brief period in late 2004/early-to-mid 2005.

Comparing this photo with the one above, notice how the burst on EC's guitar does not extend into the upper bout. That's more of a vintage look than the top photo, and my preference. Maybe you can find a pic of the Fullerton for comparison. Even alains '58 has a more conservative burst...early SB3.

In comparing this to the Clapton photo above and, an a second and closer look it appears to me that there's an obvious transitional red band in that burst which strongly suggests that this is not an SB2 but an SB3. If you want to see the real deal in action YouTube Derek and The Dominos on the Johnny Cash Show.

I've watched the video of It's Too Late about 10 times in the last couple of days. That's the current song I've been playing on guitar over and over this week, it's probably driving my wife crazy lol.

Just wanting to make sure we're not talking about ex-FEMA chief Michael "Brownie" Brown. Great job brownie.

Take it out back on the sundeck with a set of headphones and a small practice amp. Personally, I'm seriously considering paying for rehearsal hall time when I finally relocate to Florida. I don't think I'll have my studio to myself ever so she'll either have to deal with the cost or arrange to be at her cards or MahJong when it might be loud. 8)

Nope, no Duane.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWGa9TSI ... =1&index=4

The sync is a little off on that one, but there's a few other videos out there of the same performance. I think the video quality is the best on this one, just the audio is a little out of sync.

Let's not lose sight of the theme of the thread. The guitar in the video has no semblance to the photo submitted above.

Seems that Dave Bronze's Candy Apple Red P-Bass has an Aerodyne J-Bass neck fitted.

This is known as 'shooting the shoot". That would have been for the GC catalog.
