I'm looking for a Strat..... so instead of getting the American Standard. I'm planning on getting the Highway One or The American Special, cause they're also American made.

so which one is better?? I mean the tone, quality, playability......

I own both, they are both great guitars. It really depends on the sound you want. If you can, play both and see which you like better. There is also the dull vs. glossy finish if you have a preference.

Are you looking for SSS or HSS pickup configuration? If it helps out the hubucker in the HSS is the same in both models.

I just purchased the American Special HSS and I am loving it to death. I have thought of buying a Fender for quite sometime but the American models were out of reach for my budget, but I walked into GC and picked this guitar up and I just had to have it. The Looks and feel and action are awesome. For me it was Special all the way. Keep up the good work Fender :-)

I think I'll go for the HSS..... cause I play mostly Rock. But still not sure about it!! what I see is the American Special are using the Texas Special pick ups..... and the gloss neck. And it's the newest American series..... so I think it might be better than the Highway one seires....

but I saw a review about the Highway one, the Fender Marketing manager talks about the Highway one series..... he said that the Highway One can play well in High Gain....

Here is a good review on the American Special

http://www.premierguitar.com/magazine/I ... views.aspx

and here's a good review on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcGhZcWSHys

I have tried some of the Highway ones, and they are fine, but the feel didn't seem right. As usual go to your local dealer and play them both. When I picked up the Special it just screamed take me home (it just felt right like it was mine all along) to me feel means alot, but it also had nice looks and the set up was perfect. But you could have 5 or more of the same guitar sitting in front of you and they may all feel a tad different. Play them all and pick the best one to you, and if one in particular just feels perfect then it is a match made in heaven and don't set it down or the next guy just may snag that baby. :-)

I went with intentions of a hwy but there were none in stock, what they did have was American sp. in both versions,SSS and HSS. The hss was definitely more my style, I am happy I got the glossy finish versus the matte. Trying to decide whether or not to change the hb, but that's why I got fender in the first place was for the tones. Got my Ibby for the rowdier stuff.

i wouldn't just settle on any two guitars...goto a guitar store and play as many as you can...narrow it down to a few and pick the one that sounds best to you...that's the only way to buy a guitar

when i got my Highway 1 i must of played 10 different strats ranging from $400 to $2500...go figure the $700 strat sounded better then all of them...i like it!

American Special costs a little more, but it has better pickups and its got a glossy finish. Highway One looks a little old, but the satin neck feel is a great feeling.

Hwy 1's can have a great shine if you buff it with a good rubbing compound....

Here's my 2009 HWY 1

Upgrades:

Seymour Duncan JB bridge
LR Baggs X-Bridge (piezo) and Control X (preamp) w/ mini toggle
Black Pearloid Pickguard

And buffed out to a beautiful shine

but I lived in a small town.... so I will need to go to some big city!! then only I can try those expensive guitar such as Fender, Gibson & Ibanez Prestige.....

in my town there's still some Guitar Shop, but only Squier & some cheap Ibanez..... but I think in Malaysia is hard to find a good guitar shop!!! cause normally, those shop dont display a Fender or Gibson.... you can only order it then buy!!

Well living in a rural area does make it harder, if possible bide your time until you can make your way into a larger town/city and get the chance to test drive those guitars.

On the Squire, don't knock em until you try them, the Classic 50's and 60's ones are actually quite nice and you can't beat the price.

On the Ibanez, they have some starter packages like all other guitar producers, but they also have some very nice stuff too. I have an AS-83 and AS-73 Semi-hollow guitars (Artcores) and they are not the top of the line by any means, but a fine guitar for a good price. I love them :-)

but back on with Fenders. I have this American Special sunburst HSS on my lap and every time I strum and play a lead it is shear bliss. I run it through my Peavey ValveKing 212 and an older Digitech RP300a and I'm loving every minute with this guitar and set up :-D

yeah.... I know Squier makes really good guitars. And the tone quality also quite similar with Fender!! But I saw a video on you tube, what that guy said is true....

Actually, before seeing this video. I wanna get the Squier Classic Vibe 60s Strat & the 60s P Bass.

anyway, thanks!!
