Anyone ever gotten their neck from Warmoth with a hole drilled in the heel like this? It measures 3/8"...is this from the manufacturing process?

Looks like this one started as a vintage neck and changed to a pro before the channel was completed.

Just looked. The VM has a head adjuster and the total vintage adjusts at the heel. Not a big deal, IMO. Won't affect it a bit musically, and probably why the price was right.

yea i agree it wouldn't affect it in sound transfer but its just the principle really...seems like they just "assumed" that the buyer wouldn't notice or would be ok with it...

Agreed. I hope it's a locator point for the CNC tooling and not a case such as you suspect. Nonetheless it's a sweet neck! Try not to let that nag at ya.

did you get it from the screamin' deals page? if so i bet it had this written in the descriptor, if not it may have been meant to. Give em a call, they'll sort you out, they have great customer service.

i figured it might be something for the CNC milling of the nut...a means of centering the neck before they actually cut it...so i could just be making a big deal over something that is their standard practice...i'll give them a call tmw and post the results...thanks!

just spoke with Warmoth...apparently the 3/8" hole is used for when they radius the neck and they also use it for when they finish the guitar...weird i figured they would have something about that on their website...oh well at least now we know!

the whole point of this thread was to figure out what the 3/8" hole was for...why would we need another thread?

Stratdude83 I'm glad you started this thread. I just got my Tele neck from Warmoth today and it has the same hole in the end of the heel. I would have probably called Warmoth to find out why it was there, so thanks . I'm waiting on some dye stain so I can finish my new neck.

good to hear! yea i thought it was a little odd having a random hole drilled in the heel...you can always plug it as well...i would start with a 7/16" dowel rod and sand it until it fits in the hole snuggly but you dont have to do any of this...
