Very "Stratty", and very loud vs. passive Strat pickups. The SPC does indeed fatten the sound of the pickups by cranking up the midrange and the RXP does its job equally as well by doing the opposite in terms of tightening up the bass, attenuating the mids and tweaking up the highs for quite a clean presence, depending on which extreme(s) of the frequency spectrum one is going after. Of course, they are humbucking.

EMGs are predominantly used by players who use a lot of effects in their signal chain as they are designed to keep the consistency of the predetermined sound of whichever model true under heavy processing as obviously, they too are preamped. Players who don't use a lot of processing usually find EMGs either frequency excessive and/or sterile. Many players won't touch EMGs simply because of the on-board battery they require.

I do like them and have used them but because I am a straight plug-in-and-play type, I find that they aren't necessary for my purposes as there are a host of passive Strat pickups which will achieve the same results for me. Further, being the old fart that I am, I'm not afraid of 60 cycle hum which expands my choices all the more.

Note: As has been said here ad-nauseam, only Gilmore will sound exactly like Gilmour, Hendrix exactly like Hendrix and on and on, regardless of whatever guitars and pickups selection they play(ed).

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

If your talking about th EMG DG20 I had one on a strat I had and it went from classic strat sounds to humbucker sound with a turn of the knob. It can produce a very wide variety of tones so if you play a lot of different music or cover a lot of different bands then iT's great I had to sell the guitar due to financial l reasons. The battery is installed under the pickguard but I moved my trem springs around to fit it in the trem cavity two springs to the lower (E,A) strings and one at the high E string side and ran the battery plug wire through the ground wire hole. I will eventually get one again .

Both the EXG and SPC electronics are very similar to Fender's own TBX and MDX circuits used on many Artist and Custom Artist series guitars, although they had a different character.

Have you seen this one? Gives you some options. I think I read about this company in posts here. It would be good to see if there are comparisons.
