So I was at GC yesterday picking up my replacement DRRI, my buddy who works there takes the amp to the back for me to test and make sure I'm happy with it, he goes to get me a guitar and goes here's the guitar you've been asking about... hands me a beautiful Dakota Red EJ Strat with rosewood and that nice binding! I heard lots of great things about it but this was the first time I played one. That neck, the tone, it's something else! It's also light... I want!!

I don't need another guitar, or a Strat, already have 2, just got a AM. Dlx Ash that I really like... help a brother out, what should I do?? Those of you who own an EJ Strat, how do you like it compare to your other Strats if you have any? Will I get bored of it in the future or will it become my #1?

Yeah at $1999 I think it's overpriced as well... but it's one heck of a guitar! I can't stop thinking about it, it was a joy to play it, really liked that tone! I'm a fan of EJ but I'm not really after his tone, just really loving a clean Strat sound these days... and that guitar thru the DRRI was like magic! My new Dlx with Fralins sounds wonderful as well, this one sounded different, one of the nicest sounding Strat actually! it could be the amp :) I'm not sure how I'm going to avoid going to GC over the wknd :(

What you might consider doing is find out the electronic specs of the EJ and build yourself a second electronics system, pickup and all - maybe
even a second body if necessary.
That's the approach I can afford and I'd have more cash to experiment with.
Make your own signature guitar.

I'd wait until Christmas to see if Musician's Friend is doing Fender Fridays again, I think last year they had Eric Johnson sigs going for $1200? Either that or find one used, for $2000 you can get something that has a custom shop logo on the back ^^

Only if Christmas comes in July! :) I don't need a custom logo, just a guitar that brings me lots of joy...

Yeah, tell 'em that in the shop. I expect they're used to hearing it by now.

Seriously, it's a cool guitar, man. I think you're going to be very happy.

Enjoy - C

Mine is maple but imho when these 3 specs fall just on the spot, that mean so much. Anyway I can't give you a bone to not buy one.

I wish I had bought an EJ when GC still sold them for $1300...at $2k that's a hard pill to swallow :?

That said, I loved it every second I played it. I just put a set of EJ tuners on my '73 strat.

Well I figured out long ago that if you can't stop thinking about things like that, then go ahead and buy it if you can get the money, but I would suggest that you try to buy the one that sounded so great because in my humble opinion,no two guitars play and sound exactly the same.
It's useless to try and talk somebody out of buying a great sounding guitar, after all we all have the addiction I guess....like one drunk telling another not to drink. :D

It sure is an addiction! I haven't stopped thinking about it since the day I saw it! :( I've been busy so I managed to stay away from the store, which is a good thing since I can't really afford it now...

I'm surprised there aren't any rosewood owners here, is that EJ model new? When did the rosewood first come out?

I agree with you Rebel, I can never buy a guitar unless I played it, and this one felt perfect!
