Hi, I'm trying to find out wich Fender Stratocaster signature model Bob Dylan is playing. On som pictures you can see the signature on the headstock, but I can't read the signature. It's a sunburst body wit a rosewood fretboard. Does any body know?

Greetings Finn (a fellow Norwegian?), and your first post is welcomed.
About the guitar; what Dylan period have you seen him play it? A picture would be useful. I have seen Bob with several strat signatures, including Knopfler and SRV, but I can not recall seeing him with a suburst sig.

He played it in around 1980. I have a picture - but I dont know how to send it with this message?

With all respect to Bob Dylan...being the legend that he is.......when I think of him....I think....SONGWRITER.
I do NOT think of unholy STRAT-ABUSE when I think of Bob Dylan!
Thought provoking songwiter/iconic figure that he is......he is only a strummer at best on the guitar.
(whew....gonna upset a few people with THAT one!)

If I am indeed WRONG...someone please post a YOU TUBE of Bob tearing it up on a Strat!

If it really was 1980, then that rules out a signature model Strat becuase they did not exist back then. The first artist sig Strat was the Eric Clapton model which didn't come out until 1988. Besides the Clapton never had a rosewood fretboard or came in sunburst. The Stevie Ray Vaughan model has those specs, but didn't come out until 1992.

Are you sure about the year 1980? Or is the "signature" you see on the headstock really the "Original Contour Body" decal that is at the end of the headstock?

Finn, you need to post the picture through an online photo web page, most of us use photobucket. There are several posts and threads on the forums that deals with these matter. As soon as we get the picture fronted, I'm sure we'll make out the signature.

And as to HWY1Strat's completely off track utterings, they will not be accepted! As the absolute Dylan fan I am, this must be fought upon.
Of course it must not. I do agree with you, Dylan is far from the best guitar player we have. But why should he be? He is a prophet when it comes to harmonica and piano playing, aswell as with songwriting. In addition to his unnumerable other fields of expertise.
So stating that Dylan is not a guitar ripper, should not provoke any bad feelings. It would infact surprise me if Mr. Dylan would take it as such a big insult himself.

No photos, but I do remember Dylan playing a Bonnie Raitt signature Strat back in the 1990s - I guess he liked the narrower (1 9/19" wide) neck on the Raitt sig.

Fender made the Raitts in both the regular 3-color burst and that purple/blue burst (although most of them were the purple/blue burst) when they were making a regular production model. These had regular single coils; the few that were made in the CS were all the purple/blue burst and they had Lace Sensors.

i was reading through this thread and read this comment and was wondering why you thought anyone here was advocating Dylan as some type of Strat shredder? I think the question at hand is What Strat was he playing in the 1980s. We all know he was no Eric Clapton....but it is interesting as I remember when he broke out of his acoustic era and went electric, how many people were upset in the "folk scene" that he had somehow betrayed his cause and given into the rock scene. I remember seeing him playing a Strat around the time he was doing stuff with The Band.

I've seen him with a sunburst Strat that had lace sensors and a rosewood board, but no sig?
