It's an excellent guitar. A Stratocaster MIM with a 'multi-piece' ash body, rosewood slab 9.5" radius FB on a satin finish maple neck; apparently equipped with Tex-Mex pups. Has a tortie pickguard and is quite attractive visually.

Serial MZ6 indicates manufacture in 2006 or 2007; specific date is not important to me; what I wonder is this: How many were made with tortiseshell and not the white pickguards that you see being hawked by the Musician's Friend online catalog.

IMHO the tortie is a ton more pretty. Kudos to Fender for coming up with this variation. I've seen by research that there are few differences between this and the model that came out as the FSR Deluxe Players Strat ... most notably the flatter 12" radius FB, and natural ash vs. the burst; and cosmetically the gold vs. chrome hardware. Both have a @#$^#$@!! hot sound.

The love of my life plays bass, and got me this guitar for a Christmas present after she herself recieved and early Christmas present of it's J-Bass couterpart; an MIM FSR ash body that far outpaces what we usually see coming out of Ensenada. It too, the J-bass, has a tortie PG and is the same as any other J-Bass standard with the notable and beautiful exception of a natural finish ash body.

These guitars are noted as Factory Special Run and my trivial mind will pose the question once more: How can I find out exactly how many of these were made? I won't ever sell my new "Merry" (christmas) Stratocaster. It's worth more to me than anyone can pay; I'm just curious.

I have the same one of which you speak. It came with Tex-Mex pickups. I swapped them out for a DiMarzio Area 58/58/61 combo and bought a Fender tortoise backplate to match the pickguard. I don't care what anyone says, this guitar rivals ANY American Strat I've ever owned or played and it is now my #1.

FWIW, mine was made in April of '07. The guy at the Guitar Center who sold it to me said that this particular model was made exclusively for GC, one per store. I believe he said there was something like 700 GC stores so, in the ballpark, there's your answer.
