I never would've thought to close my eyes! I'll have to give it a try.

Maybe not exactly a similar example, but in the ballpark....in my younger days I was a body man, and if you really wanted to know if your repair was smooth and perfect you'd close your eyes and then run your hand over it. Much better results that way.

The first time I tried it was when I was a self taught player who had been at it for about six months. The guitar teacher at the rock music camp I went to taught the class how to do that. Between that and the tapping and the arpeggio and the sweep picking exercises I thought I was going to die.
