Just saw that an auction to be held at Planet Hollywood Casino in Las Vegas will have on auction a Jimi Hendrix Stage Played Fender Guitar (Est. $150,000/$200,000).

Auction is of "Musical Icons" memorabilia...mostly Michael Jackson, some Elvis and other Icons... but saw the Hendrix guitar mentioned. No pics unfortunately..or other details of the guitar.

Details here: http://www.juliensauctions.com/auctions ... index.html

Auction is June 24th and 25th

Too late for Father's Day I'm afraid.

Price is pretty steep.

If that Strat is the real deal I can see it making well over $200,000 after all the Woodstock went for $100,000 when it was auctioned for the first time over 20 yrs. ago.Peter Green's Les Paul reportedly went for about one million so it's conceivable that a guitar that was played in concert by someone as iconic as Jimi would go for really big bucks. If I had $200,000 to spend I'd consider it a bargain for a guitar Jimi played-that unless it was one that he "sacrificed".

I have a book called Hendrix Gear,I think it is,that shows many guitars that he owned and played, there's some controversy about some well known examples like a Strat that Frank Zappa got from a roadie that was burned,it's been questioned, and another that's reported to have been burned called the "Astoria Strat" in relation to the place where he burned it,the first time he did that onstage.A guy paid big money for that one but some people doubt it's the same one.
There's a list of other reported guitars he owned and played in the back...who knows how they can be documented.

That is what I was wondering. That is not the same Strat at all, as the burst is bigger, has RW and is more beat up. Certainly does not lean credibility to the guitar for sale.

The other odd thing is the guitar shown in the pictures seems to be two different guitars. The back shots show a traditional 2 -color sunburst with a lot of red used on the inside burst, while the front shows almost no red burst....what's up with that. The guitar showing the back has the "right" serial number but man, is that the same guitar on the top??

If you look in the catalog (which you can view online) the picture is captioned as just being just a similar strat Jimi played in 1967. That guitar Jimi is playing in the picture is not being purported to be the same guitar for sale.

This strat was bought in 1970. They provide the receipt, with serial number and hand written notes authenticating it by his road manager (the purchaser) and by Noel Redding.

As well, the guitar is currently on display in a museum.

I don't think you're going to get much more in the way of authenticity than that.

Just sayin'.....

The guitar is more documented than most others by those comments and the sales ticket....I'm going to look for the serial number in the book I have.
There's probably hundreds out there that Jimi held or played at some point, but the documentation is not there....just word of mouth.
One thing I noticed on this one is a lack of a cigarette burn on the headstock, most all of the ones in the book have that on the side where a lefty would stick it....he didn't have this one for long before he died.
