hi, i have a MIM strat that im itching to upgrade and i've decided to go with fender (even if there are "better" pickups out there like rio grande and fralin) cause it seems to be the best quality for the best price.

now, i was looking through the site and have narrowed my choices down to three: vintage noiseless, hot noiseless, or samarium cobalt noiseless. (as you can tell, i don't like noise)

what im looking for in a pickup is the original strat tone, but with higher output and a good response to gain and distortion, with a vintage/modern indie sound.

any help would be great, thx!

Sounds like you want the Hot Noiseless to me.

oh, i had a question about the hot noiseless,

the vintage noiseless comes with three pots, 2 1megs and 1 500k (i think)

do the hot noiseless come with those? if they don't, do they need 'em?

I've had a MIM standard for years (SN MN8 xxxxxx); and upgraded to the Vintage Noiseless in 2003. Made it a wholly (HOLY) better sounding guitar. With the Vintage Noiseless it is IMPERATIVE that you replace the pots too. The drawback with them is that the volume control is not linear. There is a steeper rollup as you go up. (as in,... there's a bigger difference up between 7 and 10 than there is down around 3 and 6; get it?)

That's all I know, no knowledge of the other pickups but if you want a smooth linear volume control the Vintage Noiseless is not the way to go even though to me it was a minor learning curve to get a grip on ... the sound is FABULOUS.

Is there something that has been improving on MIM standard strats over the years? The pups that came on mine are now on a Squier Affinity series, which improved that guitar; but the newer standards in the stores today seem to sound better off the rack than mine did originally.

Either way in my opinion ALNICO RULES!
