Want to put a quick and easy shine on your Highway Strat?

Use Brasso metal polish - it really works. I discovered it after using some to clean up a bridge on a mat finished Guitar (a Vintage Lemon Drop). I couildn't be bothered to take take the hardware off, so I polished it in situ. I was surprised to find that once I'd rubbed it in, it had also put a nice shine on the guitar top around the bridge. So I quickly used it to polish the rest of the top with good results.

I then decided to use it on my Highway Strat. Within minutes the top was gleaming nicely. It's not the massive deep shine you'd get with a poly finish - but it IS reflective and, well, shiny. It's a uniform finish too - not at all patchy. It's like the finish your Highway top develops after rubbing it every day with your forearm whilst playing. There is a very slight suggestion of the orange peel effect, so if you're going to give it a go, you might want to try a small patch on the back of the guitar first - just to make sure you like the effect.

It stays shiny too. Mine has been gleaming now for 6 months and is a lot easier to clean and keep gleaming. It also leaves the finish more resistant to staining from guitar straps and blue/black jeans.

I use the round tin Brasso which has the polish infused into cotton wadding. It's a lot easier to use and control than the liquid, though I'm sure the latter will do just as good a job.

I really loved the feel of my HW1 as well as realizing it's potential as the foundation for my own custom guitar.

I ended up repainting her with a thick and rich nitro finish and replacing the pickups with some Seymour Duncans. She roars now

My best friend and I both own HWY1s. Mine is black and his is 3-color sunburst. Anyway, I noticed that my right arm was making a shiny spot on the guitar. We discussed the idea of shining the whole thing up.

A little rubbing compound and elbow grease later, and I have a Strat that looks great. I put a black pick guard and black parts on it. It looks very much like my old black '77 Strat.

My Best friend loved the so much that he shined up his HWY1.

They are killer Strats.

Wow, you guys are making me want to shine my guitar.

Does anyone know of any good polishes I can use? I tried the Gibson Guitar Polish but it didn't do a thing (or maybe I used it wrong, how would you?).

I'm a little hesitant on the Brasso Metal Polish only because everyone says how fragile nitro is and would like to use something made specifically for nitro.

What did you guys do to get a nice shine? Any tips?

Rubbing/Buffing compound. Something with a very mild abrasive and 100% cotton t-shirt.

I'm convinced that every owner ends up shining up their HWY1s. They just shine up so cool looking. Very vintage looking.

I did this to my flat black HSS HWY 1 about a week ago (after owning it for 18 mos.), with a rubbing/ polish compound I bought from walmart.... it was in a black squeeze bottle it has some kinda scratch remover in it.... I use this with a microfiber polish pad and buffed it to a beautiful shine.... Was a good looking guitar before but now its GORGEOUS....

Here is my flat black HSS HWY 1 (with Seymour Duncan JB, LR Baggs Piezo Bridge w/ control X pre amp, black pearloid pickguard, and original neck/ mid pickups).... It plays as beautiful as it looks....... Shining after using a good rubbing compund/ polish. It's been like this ever since I used it :D
