It's quick and easy, and I like them a lot. I've got an extra set of F logo'd ones I'm putting up on Ebay this Friday.

an "extra set". why you getting rid of them?
are they 3 and 3 or inline 6 ?

I'm always buying guitar parts. I liked the set I bought and installed on my Strat so I bought a second set intending to use it on a "partscaster" build. I never got around to building the "partscaster" and it's time to clean out the parts drawer.

They are the Fender inline "F" logo locking tuners.

Need some myself and will go for the Schallers (I've got 3 sets of their locking machines and they're excellent), not the Pings.

The set I need to replace are non-locking Pings on an '08 American Deluxe Ash Tele. The 'B' string machine is bad and a couple others don't feel smooth.

I prefer the Schaller/German versions. I've had to replace a couple of the Pings in the past.

I think someone else pointed it out on the first page, but it says on the package they come in. If it says "Indonesia" they're Pings. If it says "Made in Germany" they're more than likely Schallers.

It is a personal taste. I prefer brushed metal over shiny metal.

brushed does give it a different look as far as the guitar goes doesnt it?

Yep - in fact, if it says Made in Germany they HAVE to be Schallers. No other solid body guitar machines are made in Germany, I am 99.9 percent certain. (I leave that 0.1 percent of doubt - just in I get corrected, which I always stand to be! :D )

Cheers - C

Yeah, Sperzel is the only other company in Germany that makes tuners (that I can think of).

I have a set of the brushed Schaller locking tuners that I added on my MIM Strat and the quality is great. I also have an AM deluxe Strat with the factory installed F style and they have given me no trouble. I did notice a differenence in the gear ratio between the the types, but I can live with that. I just got a set of F style locking tuners for a project in the works and on the bag it says made in Taiwan, so maybe Fender is outsourcing to the lowest bidder just like everyone else.

I don't think it's necessarily an "outsource to the lowest bidder" situation. If I'm remembering correctly Schaller was family-owned; when the last surviving family member died a couple of years ago the company was briefly shut down until new owners could be put in place - it was either something to do with their will or something to do with German business law regarding privetly held companies.

At any rate, during that brief time Fender went to Ping to keep their supply of locking tuners up to the levels they wanted to maintain. I suppose they didn't go with Sperzel because they were already using other Ping tuners (sealed tuners on MIM, Highway 1, and Am Specials as well as Kluson-style on MIM Classics).
