Yeah that's true and it usually comes as a result of the frustration of not being able to sound like someone else and to say,I'm just gonna do it my way.
And you know what,those guys who everyone is imitating started out much the same way...read who their inflences were,give those guys a listen and you'll see what people like Hendrix copped from them....people like Buddy Guy and Curtis Mayfield.

That's exactly what I want to do. I don't want to recreate anyone's tone. I want to learn what got them there and by doing so, I learn how to create different tones myself.

I love Jimi's tone in many places in his recordings, it makes me wonder what it actually sounded like live. I'll bet that it had to be quite the experience (pun intended) to hear his tone for the first time when you had never heard anything like it before.

I'd also love to know what all Kenny Wayne Shepherd was using on the Experience Hendrix Tour when he played the Voodoo Child. The sound was unbelievable to me.
