were you bidding ??

No, I wasn't bidding, just wondering what kind of deals you can get on there. My brother told be months ago that I should look for guitars on there.

I found out about the site back around March when a local news station had the founder on for an interview. Since then I have bought some stuff like a couple nice watches, sunglasses, some power tools, but this is the first time I have seen any kind of quality guitar. It's kind of fun to keep an eye on it because you never know what you will find at an auction. A few days after I got the Strat, a SG and some kind of Ibanez were posted, right now they have a Hammond organ! ,so I think it's something to check every now and then.
Oh Yeah, tell your brother he was right :P

I have a 1997 Strat Plus - Black with beautiful perloid scratchplate & maple neck.

I bought it unseen from eBay a few years ago... and at the time it seemed like a reckless act as it was the most expensive guitar I'd ever bought. But it was the best desicion and it is still my favorite guitar and my most-played (despite having collected a few more gems since! See www.guitar-collector.org  )

Lace pickups, locking tuners, roller bridge and tremsetter - couple this with a superb neck with fat frets and it's a fantastic combination.

The frets on mine are somewhat worn and I've been promising myself I'll get a pro fret dress and set up this year - I haven't got around to it yet, but I will.. the guitar is worth it! :D

Back when I was in college, I bought a new Strat Plus, I think it was in '89 and it cost me $600 IIRC, I didn't have my other Strat at the time and needed a guitar... the color was teal or turquoise, not really sure, although it looked great and played nice I never really liked the tone, ever since I've never been a fan of the lace pickups, it's just me, I still prefer a traditional Strat sound... maybe I should check them out again if I ever find one!

I have a 1989 Strat plus in blackburst or mystic black or whatever it's called. It was the 6th guitar in my collection, many guitars have come and gone and it still my favorite after all these years. It came home with me on 4/27/1999 for a mere $400! It almost got away as the 1st time I tried to buy it. I asked the store to hold the guitar so I could get the money from my savings account to buy it. I was unable to pull the necessary funds from my bank account. I was 17 at the time and my mother's name was also on the account. Inbetween that time, a friend of mine went to the store with the intention of taking it home but to his horror, saw it was reserved for me. He is still pretty mad about it. I had to tell the store about how the bank would not let me withdraw any $ w/out my mother's consent and I had no intention of telling her I was gonna buy another guitar. Luckily I went back tot he store a few days later with my dad and it was still there. We offered $400 even for it and it was mine! I gave my dad the money of course. His logic for telling my mom was that high school graduation was literally weeks away. This was definitely a "love at first sight" deal. I have never played another Strat Plus that felt as good. I'd honestly choose it over my Gibson.

Over the years I have searched for that guitar, or one that would replace it. I've seen some vintage white/maple ones come up on Ebay over the years, but none of that vintage. I've looked through Xhefri's website, and it seems like that particular color is not listed as even being available in 1987. I do know that my guitar had a serial # that made it look like it was an '84, so it was definitely one of the earlier ones.

Hi Plumptone.
Love that custom shop strat - pretty much my dream guitar at the moment.
I stumbled across your post via google so I thought I'd join and add my comments.
Vintage White was, as you are aware, indeed available on the early Strat Plus. I'm in the UK and I have owned an '88 model from new. I've messed about with it quite a bit - I swapped out the original lace sensors for some lace "holy grail" pickups (not because I disliked the sensors' sound, I just hate that no-polepiece look!) and the Wilkinson nut has been replaced with an LSR. I foolishly took it upon myself to install an Earvana nut but managed to make a mess of it and that, combined with my poor setup skills resulted in the thing sounding terrible :(

Good news is that I've recently started hankeing after that strat sound again so it's away with my preferred tech having the LSR re-installed and a general fret dress and setup. It's ready for collection now and he seems pleased with the improvement - he says it's very "hi-fi" sounding now!

Here's a couple of pics that show, amongst other things the John Cruz stamped neck and the incredible amount of yellowing over the years (I thought poly finishes didn't do this - I wish mine didn't as I really liked the original, creamy color):

On this link ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=md0fKE5lovQ ) we have a spoof of a Gimore tune using this guitar. Take time to listen to the solo which is recorded on a video cam. Crank it up! LOL! It was something just for fun!

I guess it's not really a Plus anymore, but still sounds great, I think whoever had it before me was going for the SRV #1 vibe

is that the actual elite you bought? Looks in really great shape.

If that was my plus I would switch it back to white and put some lace sensors back in it.

Yeah that's it :o it's in great condition, have been checking Daddy's Junky Musics "new" used arrivals section every day for two months just looking for something unique, did not expect an Elite to pop up, jumped on it right away

I do have a set of Lace emerald, silver, purple I would like to put in the Plus but it sounds so good as it is right now that I don't want to mess with a good thing
