Hi all.

Okay, so last night I was watching SRV play little wing on you tube when on the side bar I see that of all bands Skid Row did a version of little wing.

Curious I thought it might be good for a giggle, I know there a good band, but it seemed a bit outside of there style.

Dave "The snake Sabo is playing lead here, and it looks like a Stratocaster with the gold lace pick ups. I think he was under contract to another guitar company (I know he is a Peavey sponsored artist) so the headstock look like the blanked it out.

I was surprised by how well they did it, and if you put the SRV version out of your mind first, I think you may as well.

I don't think that is Snake, pretty sure Sabo was playing the rhythm parts. I would imagine that those are probably EMGs not Lace. Though I am no expert on either.

I think it isn't too bad. I like seeing bands go outside of their known styles.

I remember seeing it about a year back when I first got really into Stevie. It was on the sidebar, so I watched it. While it's not Stevie, I really do like it. They did a good job. :)

I thought it started out great but ended poorly. One thing is certain.
That Sebastian Bach has some wicked sounding pipes.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The guitar is a Strat Ultra with Lace Sensors and an ebony fingerboard. It has a dually bridge pickup and a Floyd Rose tremelo. Looks like he modified the volume and tone pots. I thought he had a locking nut on it too.

As a cover of Little Wing they really smoked it. It took 3 people to do what Jimi would do by himself though. I really liked the vocals; that guy can really sing!

Just okay, I've heard better on open mic nights. The songs been done to death, it needs a new twist.

It's pretty good. Love the jangly twang tone.

I was reading October 1983 issue of Heavy Metal Magazine and they ran a strip of Hendrix playing Voodoo Chile (A Slight Return). His lyrics alone captivated me enough to buy The Essential Jimi Hendrx album and I went guitar gaga. Little wing was always a special song that I loved dearly.

Can you imagine a jam session in Heaven with Jimi and SRV on guitars, Bonzo from Zeppelin on skins and maybe Rick James on bass. Alex from White Zombie might be a better choice for bass. I dunno.

This is kind of funny. Some of you might have seen it on one other post sometime back. It is a spoof we did on the fly with drum machine, keyboard with the guy playing bass with the left hand and my blue customized Strat Plus (me on geetar) LOL! It sounds better turned up or with headphones.

Not a big fan of that redo. Try to imagine if that was not a Hendrix cover and a Skid Row original..don't think it would have went anywhere. Granted, the guitarist has some of the signature licks down (and it is Scotti Hill doing the lead, not Dave (snake), I know him personally), but it is stiff, pretentious and the timing sucks, no feel all show...IMHO of course. And the girly man posing and trying to sing it does not help.

This song is covered to death and some have produced decent renditions and interpretations. I think SRV plays it well, but he really should have sang to it. A strong song yes but it does require lyrics to really shine. I do not feel comfortable either to insult anything SRV ever did as just to get his tone i would give a leg...but honestly, he took a beautiful song and turned it into masturbation, as did Skid Row in this case.

And on a side note..the boys were Kramer endorsees as far as I know. I don't think they played Peavey guitars. Since some older Kramers are essentially Strats (some made of solid Basswood), it is fairly safe to assume that is what they are playing on the vid...but who knows for sure, I never asked. it sounds enough like a Strat for me.
