I'm the Lunatic you've been talking about.....
First, let me thank Jeff for defending me, as if I needed it....
2nd, photo-shop pictures, they were scanned from my grandma's photo album after she passed away.....
3rd, The Strat is real, I have not seen her since Christmas 1982 - too painful for me.......
4th, the price is what it will take to pry it out of my useless gimp hands.....
5th, I was on my way to work at night (3rd shift) when I hit the tree.....
6th, I received hundreds of nice emails, complimenting me on the guitar.....

I don't need the money (could use it)
(I can't believe the posts about my auction, GEEZE - You think I was selling JFK's private unwashed collection of Marilyn Monroe's panties)

I also have a 1977 Travis Bean (Metal Neck 6 string), Apollo Beatle bass, a 100+ year old violin (I restored) that I would sell for a reasonable price....

You tell me this is worth $106,482,500

Image
Or this for $5,000,000
Image

No, that's not mine........
As soon as I can get my lazy son to bring her out to me, I will post new photos of her........

P.S. That picture of me, my son and 3 of my 5 grand kids, was a fake too
I photo-shopped them, the wheelchair and the 1963 2 door Chevy Impala....... Just having some fun.......

Now that's a more reasonable price Jeff.

Jim, if you would have posted your guitar with recent pictures and a reasonable price I don't think there would have been so many negative posts. JMHO. Good luck in whatever you do my friend!!

Almost forgot my manners! Welcome to the forum Jim!!

My bad, I forgot 1 zero.....
I know it's a lot of money, but that's my price....
I turned down $150,000, cash......

Thanks for the welcome though........
It sucks laying on my side typing with one finger.....

Jim

Do you have them too? Put em on the bay, I'll bid  (JK).

Well Jim on a more serious note, what are you doing selling a guitar your not in possesion of? Mate anything could happen or already have happened to it.

Also $5Mil is a bit too expensive for a 57, even a rare black one. $40,000 is nearer the mark.

Tell you what mate... I'll give you £6.73 and a sherbert dip.... deal...yeah?

Once again just kiddin.

Hi Jim, welcome to the Forum.

You think that's nuts? Me too.

The way you feel about that - that's exactly how folks here feel about seeing a '50s Strat offered for $5 million. I believe you'll get the same reaction if you put your Chevy Impala on Ebay for $5 mil too...

Jim, "vintage" guitars are very easy to fake and sometimes get silly money. Not as silly as five mil, but still nice prices. That means there is A LOT of guitar faking going on. Here on the Forum we see fake guitars offered for sale at different levels of the market all the time. That's why people respond the way they do to your unusual Ebay page.

The good news is that if your Strat really is what you say then you could get a decent price for it if you ever want. Not enough to buy a house to be sure, but maybe a number with five digits.

You say someone offered you $150,000 cash? Mate, track that guy down and take the money. Unless your guitar previously belonged to Buddy Holly or some such that is probably the best offer in the history of the electric guitar. You'll never get a better one...

Good luck - C

I don't and won't take 150k for it.....

My kids will get my other assets well in excess of 1M.......
All of which I worked for..... Worked 25 years after I broke my neck to keep insurance on my family....

Whoever wants her, can have her examined by whatever expert they wish.... As long as I'm there too....
The maple neck was re-fretted and re-finished at Fender in 1982.....
Some say it diminishes the value..... I don't care, I never planned on having an accident.... I would still be rocking with her today.....

You won't get the chance. A refinish puts it in the £8-10K range immediately. Also the fact that Fender weren't refinishing guitars for customers in 82 makes it highly dubious. Something is definitely fishy. I think your talking yourself into a hole here.

ZZDoc's 58 was absolutely molested by Fender in 67-69 time period. They didnt bother refinishing the body. They just binned it and put a current body on his 58 neck.

Your guitar needs a proffesional appraisal before any serious bidder will even look at it.

I noticed the listing has ended. Did it sell?

What is it about (I don't give a damn) that's hard to understand.....
I personally took the neck off, noticed 11-57 (my birthday) penciled in on the butt end of the neck..... Took it to Fast Eddie's Music Shop (formally Ye Old Music Shop in Marissa IL owned by Bob Heil - my friend) he told me he was sending it to Fender..... I told him to also have a brass nut put on it and Dimarzio tuners..... I was intending on playing the guitar regularly when it came back..... Had no intentions of ever selling her...... And it is the original neck as I put my own lil' mark on it.......

In a way it's fortunate I was never able to play her, because I was going to router out the pick ups.....

May you all sell yours for 100k.....
But my baby (024100) is not going for that......

I hope that answers your question that someone with enough money bought her.....

Jim

why on earth buy that for $5mil when you could get

Image
Found here
http://www.swingmusic.net/1956_Fender_Stratocaster.html

Or you could have this nice 56 for sale for $17500 from Gruhn Guitars (probably the ultimate authority on vintage instruments the world over). It's just the same as yours, the body has been refinished.
Image

Here's the link to it.
http://www.gruhn.com/

BTW a neck dated 11/57 would most likely be a 58, not a 57. Neck production was well in advance of guitar out the door date. Most 57's were dated 56.
Example
Image
Found here
http://home.provide.net/~cfh/57strat.html

Hence modern customshop usage of the term 10/56 boat neck as their description of the 57 soft V boat neck. They leave softV and 57 for the productionline guitars and concentrate on the 56's for serious money.

So do you want to talk yourself into any deeper a hole, on a subject your obviously clueless about? Or would you rather toddle off and put some more shonky listings up on ebay?

In truth I really hope you did get 5mil for it (whatever it is). Anyone crazy enough to pay that doesn't deserve to have their own money.

So, someone bought her? :? or did you mistype?
If you don't care about selling her then what is the purpose of all this? Like nikininja said,Jim, you are not making a good case. Don't sell it and have a great sentimental guitar and a great day.

If I felt the way you say you do I'd let this thread die and move on to better things. What is there to accomplish?

Hi again Jim: but simply out of curiosity - why not?

The guitar is obviously not of sentimental value to you: you don't even have it in your possession. When all's said and done it's just a Fender Strat and there's millions of others in the world. In your Ebay sale you say you want to set up a trust fund for your kids, which would be a very fine thing. If someone seriously wants to pay you at least ten times what it's worth on the open market what possible reason is there not to take it?

Also, could someone educate me on this, please?
Jim Simon wrote:

BTW, Nick: I think Jim is saying he had the neck refinned at the time of the refret. Not the body. If I'm reading it right.

Cheers - C

So Fender did a refret and a refinish??? When they point blank refuse to repair for anyone else???

Whether it was body or neck, I don't believe it. The days of factory refin's ended yonks ago. I would imagine CBS were far too busy turning out guitars to sell new in 82 to worry about refrets for guitars they had already sold and taken the money for.

Dont forget that was a production peak for Fender.

Lets look at a few things here in the cold light of day.

No current pictures of the guitar

A stupid asking price, and refusal to budge despite plenty of examples of 57's or 58's not fetching 5mil'.

A unsubstantiated story about a Fender refin.

No vintage aficionado appraisal. (perhaps the most important point).

Some unrelated story about a tree falling on the sellers head.

In light of that lot, can you forgive my scepticism
