I need advice. I just purchased a 2006 Highway 1 that has been reliced. Kinnman Woodstock with K9 controls. The body is well done as well as the neck. I wasn't looking for a reliced guitar but the deal was too much to pass. (70's Fender case "road worn" complete the look). The thing sounds great. Position 8 (Kinnman) really quacks, My problem is the neck. The back has been overdone and feels too rough and raw to my liking. The fretboard has been compound radiused to flat. I'm more of a rhythm player and don't need the flat board down low. The question is, should I sand the back and refinish and then re-radius the fretboard or sell the neck and find something more to my touch. I'm conflicted. It has already been "operated" on so I wouldn't feel so bad adding my mark. Opinions are appreciated. BTW, $500 was the price.

I'm not aware of any device that would change the radius of the neck now that some wood has been taken off already. By the time you get it to your liking and refret it may be well over the price of a replacement neck.

Flat fretboard won't hurt. Besides, if your a rhythm player, you'll never be above the 12th fret. You can't do much more to the neck as it is. A little fine grit sandpaper is about the most you can do.

Do us "Stratoholics" a favor, posts some pics my man!

Don't be downhearted! A Fender strat is a great guitar unless it's been completely butchered. That doesn't sound like the case here. You could have done a lot worse than a Highway 1 - even a relic'd one.

Learn to love it for what it is. You'll be amazed how quickly you can get used to a different feeling neck profile. And it will do your technique the world of good to leave your comfort zone for a while. Find your inner Fender R'n'R Blue Collar Guy and just work the guitar till it works for you!

IMHO unless you've landed yourself with an absolute turkey, buyer's remorse is strictly for the birds..

Thanks guys. I took adey's advise and picked it up as soon as I got home from work. I tried to work it (with my limited talent) and I just can't move on the neck well. I like a smooth neck. This thing feels like a raw 2X4. I might try to smooth it this weekend.

You could always polish it, seal it and spray nitro on it. Check the tutorials on reranch.com.

The back is atrocious but that, I think can be fixed. Thank you for the Reranch link. I Created a Tele using they're instruction and products. Great stuff and highly recommended.

My first wife was gorgeous. I could look at her all day and be happy. Maybe I just don't have a good enough relationship with this guitar.

Hi there.

I play a Peavey Wolfgang as my other guitar. These guitars are unpainted oil finished necks so I have some experience dealing with a rough neck.

What you need to get is some lemon oil and OOO synthetic steel wool (You can get this a a wood working store) and use the synthetic steel wood with some oil and polish the wood with it. It will come out like glass and once it's done just oil it from time to time to keep it from drying out.

If you have never played a Wolfgang, it's a bit hard to explain, but theses necks are lighting fast.

Try the oil & polish trick first, I bet you love.
