hi guys, i got a highway one strat last december and i wanted to adjust the action and all that stuff.

when I checked the neck I wanted to adjust the truss rod, so I used the allen key that came with my guitar. the question i have is: when i put the allen key in the truss rod nut if feels like "loose" but when i try to turn the truss rod clockwise or conterclockwise i feel the truss rod is tightened, but it really feels weird when im not applying any force on the truss rod, as i said the key feels loose it moves in the nut or something like that.

is that normal ? or whats going on?

thanks i hope you got the idea my english is not perfect jeje

First of all, you need to fin a good Allen key, the one will fit thight in your trust rod nut. Very important because you can strip your nut.

Find a good quality Allen is not easy, but you can. I had same problem.
Some auto parts stores have good one. Buy some, they cost less than $1.
Too bad Fender give cheap Allen key with all of their guitars.
Bring your guitar if not sure.

The action in ajusting by the saddles heigt NOT by the trust rod.

But a "up bow" neck rise your action: bad trust rod ajustment could rise or lower your action.

I bought a new '09 American Deluxe recently and I had a slight buzzing issue with the wound strings. The first thing I checked was the neck and it was off a little. When I first tried to turn the trussrod adjustment nut it seemed very tight to me too. I applied a little force to "break it loose" and then it moved freely. Here's a pretty good Youtube video on the subject.

It is normal that is tight, The nut put pressure on the trust rod ( wich is a big bolt)

I haven't seen it on my few strats, but from reading other posts, it seems this happens - where the rod nut hole is a little sloppy for the 'correct' key...maybe you can try the next closest size? (which is likely 3.5mm) or find an 1/8" that is a bit big? Maybe a Bondhus or Huskey key with the ball end held at a slight angle?
