I was wondering what cleaner or wax is best to use on Fenders that might help with minor wear like marks and surface scratches? Sorry as I am sure this has been discussed before. It is no big deal as I know wear happens. I just purchased a used 2007 SRV Signature Strat. and wanted to see if I could remove some marks on the back of the guitar.
Thanks!

Maguire's Scratch-X works great on car and guitar

Meguiar's, Turtle Wax premium, or my favorite - Zymol cleaner/wax.

Go to a car parts place, and you can usually find different 'degrees' of polishing/rubbing compounds - i.e. meant for medium/light/or fine scratch, or swirl marks removal. I would get 2 'strengths' of whatever - i.e. 1 'polishing' for fine scratches/swirl marks and 1 'rubbing' for medium/light scratches. Just read the labels on the bottles.

While there, also pick up a few of the softest micro-fiber/cotton 'rags' you can.

There are also actual guitar products meant to do the same - Virtuoso cleaner and polish are good, and there is also Stew Mac Swirl Remover & Polish, etc.

I like the Zymol best cause it has no silicone, has appropriate waxes built in, smells good, and it is meant for removing very fine swirl marks and cleaning and waxing. It is usually the last thing I use on a poly finish (and sometimes nitro), and esp. if I used something heavier 1st to remove heavier marks.
A light touch and clean soft rags go a long way to keep from just adding more marks.

very fine steel wool can remove some of that. Wet sanding with 1500 grit or higher sandpaper should take care of the scratches too.

I use McGuiar's finish restorer on a 6" buffer with a foam pad followed by 3M Perfect-it on a seperate foam pad, cutting it every once in a while with Dunlop 65 to keep the compound from getting too dry and heating up the surface. Buff it out with a wool pad on the buffer and you get a mirror glaze shine without expending any elbow grease! I paid my dues hand-rubbing and wet sanding and I tell you, a buffer is the way to go. I'm planning on investing in a Stew Mac Buffing Arbor this winter for my blossoming guitar workshop. It will see a lot of use restoring beat finishes.
