Sad, sad day for me. I'll be singing the blues tonight for sure. A family financial decision has been caused me to sell one of my beloved guitars. I have only three to choose from. 2002 Ibanez Performace Series Acoustic, 2007/8 Fender Deluxe Roadhouse/Lonestar strat, and a 2008 Epiphone Les Paul Standard. I had to think long and hard about what I was going to do. Which one can I give up? My Ibanez needs it bridge reglued, so its just about worthless now. My strat was an alpine white Roadhouse, that now sports all gold hardware and a Lonestar neck. My Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Ebony has a Gibson Burstbucker Pro in the bridge, custom handwound zebra coil humbucker in neck, bone nut, and strap locks. Very tough choice to give up any of them. So it was a coin toss between the three. Les Paul is now up for sale. I hate to do it, but I love my strat way too much to give it up. Enough of my sob story.

Did I make the right decision?

Les Paul is now on ebay, item Number 190403653139. Sure going to miss it.

Would be the right choice for me, I'd definitely keep the Strat.

Hey man, lots of us have been there and done that....it is sad.
I didn't vote because I don't know what style you play, but I would have kept the Strat also....and this is no joke and doesn't help, but I still regret selling some things that happened many years ago,we get attached to guitars.

I've bought and sold quite a few guitars over the years, I've only connected with a few and sold those. Some I wouldnt miss and some it would be really hard to sell.

A lot of rock and blues. My strat gives me the Clapton, SRV, Guy, and Cray sounds I like.

Personally, I would ditch the wife or the girlfriend or both.

But seriously, I hope that things turn better for you quickly!

Sincerely,
OL

I sold the first electric I ever had. It was a "Ventura" japanese made Gibson 335 copy. It was red with rosewood and a big tremelo tailpiece.

It was an OK guitar, but for sentimental reasons I wish I had kept it. It's the only one I miss.

There's one of those posted on Detroit's Craigslist.

Oh the pain! Why can't we all just be independantly wealthy? The thing is that if you only have two or three guitars to begin with, there is a pretty good chance that you may have formed a bond with each of them. I recently went through this with my '97 Lone Star Strat. I'm now looking for another one - maybe I'll get one with a maple neck this time - or I'll just have to settle (lol) for an American Deluxe Fat Strat!

If I were you I'd keep the Strat, but really it's your choice. Don't let us talk you into something you'll regret later. If you decide to sell the Epiphone (or any guitar with aftermarket pickups) put the stock pickups back in and sell the aftermarket pickups separately. That way you'll get more money overall.

IMHO, it is the wrong time to sell any of them. the market is flooded with gear and the prices are dropping like a rock.

In short, it is a buyers markets and you won't get much for any of them, not near as much as when you try to replace them once this crises passes.

A second job would be more the way to go, even if it's flippin' burgers at night.

Just my 2 cents worth form someone that has been there and done that.

DetroitBlues,

Times do suck right now. I and sorry to hear you are in a bind. Out of all the guitars on your list I went with the Epiphone Les Paul. IMO, you need an acoustic guitar and an electric. Between the two electrics, (based on my personal experiences) I would keep the Fender.

The choice is completely up to you and you have both guitars, let your fingers and ears tell you which one you would rather play/keep. I hope you get caught up soon before another guitar has to go.
