I made an impulse purchase of an EJ strat, gorgeous guitar, I played it lightly at the store and never tried the whammy bar, which I only use occasionally anyways, I have had it for a couple months and noticed when I attacked the strings a little I was getting buzz, annoying on a 1600 guitar, well I was busy and the shop I got it at was an hour away so I mainly played my ES335, finally I had a chance to take it back and ask them to check it out, I was told the nut was cut too deeply and needed to be replaced, and the guy said hopefully it won't affect the neck varnish which covers the nut, when he chisels it out, AND the reason the whammy bar won't screw in is because they had problems with the bridges and it needs to be replaced too, and Fender can't get him a replacement bridge till January, so no EJ until sometime next year!!! I asked the store about a replacement and was told that because the finish (3 months old) was starting to check (extremely lightly) that Fender would only authorize repairs. FWIW, this guitar has less than 10 hours on it and has never left my smoke free house. I expected better out of 1600 guitar, I am a novice and thought by getting what I considered a high end guitar I would be assured of quality. Buyers beware.

Even though I am disappointed with the qualty control of Fender, once it is fixed I will be glad to have it back, it's a beautiful instrument.

Sorry to hear about those hassles. I've had my EJ for a year and a half and haven't had a problem with it. The trem works fine. No checking, not that I'd mind if it was. The thin nitro finish was one of the reasons I liked the EJ. It should age quickly.

The only problem I had was the high E was positioned too close to the edge of the fretboard. I just reset the neck and it was fine.
