Hi there.

My guitar has the number: EE 103351. (Gunmetal body / rosewood fretboard) I assume it is a genuine USA Fender because I bought it second hand in the UK complete with case, original Fender inspection tags, booklets, tremolo arm, duster etc. The guitar is amazing to hold and almost plays itself.

Does anyone have any idea what these guitars are worth?

On the German market they were about 550 - 600 Euros in good used condition.
My experience with eBay (a lot!!) shows that you might just convert that into dollars 1:1, which would make it 500 - 600US $ on the US market, maybe a little less. But that was about 5 years ago.

Presently oly white Strats increase in price (God knows why, probably because it's one of the most favorized colors?). I've been watching them for the past 2 years. In good condition they go for up to 750 Euros (mid 80s, good condition, no changes made, standard configuration).
So expect the same price in Dollars, maybe a little less (700 to 750 US $). Hard tails are more expensive. There's also a difference in the prizes regarding fretboard woods. Rosewood seems to go for a little less, maple boards are a little more expensive but that's just a guess, prices differ from time to time.

Outside ebay you might be lucky to get one for still 550 to 600 Dollars.

Actually the transition year was 1985 - CBS sold Fender to FMIC (Bill Schultz and his management team) in early 1985. They were back producing a handful of the reissues by the end of 1985 - a few months ago someone posted a few shots of their 1985 RI with dates from around October 1985, which is the earliest I've ever seen.

Of course you're correct that some of the empolyees who were building Fenders when the FMIC factory opened did go on to become the first employees of the Custom Shop when it was started in 1987.

These EE serial number guitars are odd birds - weren't they supposedly made for export markets but wound up being sold here in the USA as well?

Thanks JohnC---jeez, I was starting to get confused for a minute! Yeh Custom Shop was a whole different deal, and though in the same business park, was a seperate entity. I'm not up on the "EE"'s (in otherwords-haven't researched) but that (for Export) sounds reasonable and like something that we would do back then. The red color is more than likely Torino Red as I recall. Hot Rod Red came a little later.
Cheers,
rob

Hi, I just joined up tonight so this is my first post.
I've got an EE serial number stratocaster ( EE100221 ).
Black body, black scratchplate & black pick-ups with all maple neck.
I bought it in the UK earlier this year. I'd greatly appreciate any information on it's age/origin ?

Another EE owner here, I didn't know these were UK export only? Anyway, mine's 1987, gun metal blue and an utterly amazing Strat that I've owned from new. And it's going in the ground with me.

EE has nothing to do with Fender Custom Shop. They were not made in the FCS, nor did any FCS employees build them.

interesting info... '87 was def an outstanding year for exceptional quality stratocasters.
My AVRI is an '87... BEST Strat I've ever played. Everything about it is awesome... even has a fullerton curve... LOVE this guitar... and will NEVER sell it... It's w/ me for life...

The book from Fender called ( The Fender Telecaster: Detailed Story of Americas Solid Body ) says that the new independent Fender at end of 85' had a sizable amount of E4 decals and that it took until 88 to use them up and that EE was applied to guitars meant for export to Europe and Japan.. Made in Japan Fender did use E5 E6 E7 Prefix.

Going back to my EE, I was giving it a good clean, removed the neck see if I could find a date, but this is what I found and I couldn't make sense of this...
Has anybody got an idea?

The date/model info would be on the butt end of the neck.
The decal you're showing is a sign-off list.

Speaking of CBS and oddballs.
Back in the 70's I was given a badly abused/damaged Strat-styled guitar.
Usual Strat body shape and contours etc. in what I think was once a two-tone tobacco burst under the rattle can paint job.
The large head-stock had a gold CBS logo on it.
The neck was constructed completely of finely laminated approximately 1/8" thick maple "strips" running the entire length from butt to scroll.
Viewed from the back the edges of each laminate were visible.
It had a rosewood fretboard and I think 22 jumbo frets.
There was no truss rod and yet it was straight as a die.
I have never seen another neck constructed like it.

There is absolutely no date, no marking in the usual spots, the only thing I can see is this sticker!
Also nothing in the neck pocket...
