Before you do that, if I were you I'd consult a good trademark/copywrite lawyer, That "F"is something you don't want to mess with commercially. It's carved in waterslide like the "Mac" is in hamburger.
Some years ago Disney sent a letter to every pediatric medical and dental office on the planet practically advising them that if they were using Disney video product in the daily course of the operation of their practices, in any manner, it was a violation of their copyright. That's how serious this business is.
I'll go one step further for you. I'll have Brad email my address to you. Email those logos to me and I'll show them to one of the best trademark people in the business, for an opinion.
Doc

Cool custom decals!

Did you make a similar one in the gold (or silver) transitional-era style?

Thanks Doc. Totally agree. I have no intention of generating any commerce whatsoever with this. It's singular purpose is for my own use. The image will never be for sale -- and I will never use it to generate financial/commercial gain for myself or anyone else.

As far as showing the design to an attorney, what I have here would spook any trademark attorney, because these guys always prefer to err on the side of caution. So I guess I already know the answer to that discussion. But please go ahead if you'd like and grab the images from the links provided. I'll leave them up until later this evening.

If I use it for my own personal project build which has no material or business linage whatsoever to Fender, no harm has been inflicted to that trade name, nor has a loss in potential business been suffered, since the intent has never been (nor would ever be) to build and/or sell a bootleg "Fender". Now if this logo was a pirated image intended to deceive, there would be legitimate reason for concern/debate/etc....

Although I'd be happy to give the image away, it's probably better if I don't...

Well here's the way it went down on the communte this morning. The fonts which you are using are referred to in the trade as 'logotype'. You are obviously using them for their recognition factor in what I described, for discussion purposes, as a parody in your guitar project. Rob, who successfully represented The Coca Cola Company in a trademark infringement suit by them against an entrepreneur who was marketing t-shirts with the word 'cocaine' written in Coca Cola logotype advises that you are on thin ground because the 'F', in its own right, is trademarked. However, if you do not 'trade' in this either for exchange or profit, eliminate the word 'Fender', from the text, in no way represent that this is a Fender product, and keep it for your own personal use, the recognition factor aside, it should be no big deal. Which means, in the future, you ought not ever sell the guitar until you remove the decal from the headstock. Have a good time :!:

Right on, Doc! Thanks for the good legal roll-up. This guitar won't get sold in my lifetime. My son's already staking claim to it for the "kitsch" factor and as a conversation piece. Still looking for a nice lite to med worn 4-bolt body, too -- if anybody has a lead...
