I've got one, it's the upgraded version, SSS. the best thing about the way it looks is its large headstock. just gives some style!! sound is really good, but what would you expect of any strat? anyway I'm thinking about changing my bridge pickup, it's single, perhaps I'll put a humbucker there. just need a bit fatter tone here but I love the combination of neck and middle single pups.

i have one and LOVE it. its the HSS. i love the humbucker sound and versatility and range of sounds it creates. the finish is really nice too on the wine translucent rosewood. i got mine at a used guitar shop for about 400 bucks less than it would be in GC. couldnt afford to NOT buy it. great guitar

I've got a '06 Honey Blonde w/RW and I agree the Headstock gives it a great vibe. This is my first Strat and I could not be happier with the sound or playability. The Jumbo Frets make it very easy to Bend Notes and Bar Chord as well. The wood grain is visible through the finish and is starting to check which is one of reasons why I bought this model. I'm sure this one will continue to develop character as it ages.

i said this once, im gonna say it again
im not a fan of the highway ones, strings closer together due to big frets, what were they thinking, just about the only things i like about them is the fact that theyre fender stratocasters and have the large 70's headstock

To me... the worst feature of the highway 1 is the headstock. I personally enjoy the 50s headstock way more. From what I've heard most people agree.

I have two Highway Ones and love them both. I own an HSS in Sunburst and the FSR Surf Green Model with the Custom Shop '69 pickups. I played Ibanez exclusively since I picked the guitar back up a few years ago and I rarely touch them anymore. In fact, I got rid of most of them since they were just collecting dust. I never really used my tone control before until I had the Greasebucket. I play alot of distortion heavy music and I find that the Custom Shop '69 bridge pickup can handle it pretty well. but when I'm recording I use the noise gate model to quiet it down a bit.

I just got my 2007 Sunburst HWY One last month. I love this guitar.
I think it sounds better than my first Strat which was a 1987 Fender American Standard.
The Neck and Bridge pickups really stand out. The Bridge is fine too. It is single coil.

I love my Highway One Strat. I play it exclusively, having given my acoustic to charity, and having let my little kids screw up my old Squier. It's an excellent musical instrument.

The strings I believe are a little bit closer together, which is a drawback because it makes the buzzzzzzzzing g string happen more, and also the g on the Highway One is 60s Vintage overly hot, not like they're doing on the Am Deluxe, but basically it's good to get more control to hit the sting you mean to hit, and you've got the superbendability from the jumbo frets. My Highway One tolerates a very low action with no fret buzz or any problems and I'm way below the factory 1/8 inch. It's quality. I did put graphite from a pencil on all the contact points to get rid of a little bit of string buzz it had at certain frets out of the box. A "luthier" at GC was dissing Highway Ones saying they can have poorly dressed frets and wanted bucks to fix it, but all it needed was a pencil graphite, like the owner's manual says. It's super adjustable and you can dial it in just the way you want it. It's got a lot of variety of tone from vintage at the bridge to a very blues tone at the neck, and hum cancelling in bridge-mid and neck-mid. Generally, I'm playing neck-mid now for a very fat blues tone, but I'll jump to bridge-mid depending on the song. No need fof a humbucker the Fender reverse-wound pickups cancel hum beautifully without loss of the single-coil snap. For a real scorching sound tending towards Hendrix you can dial up the tones to 10, and if you want a fat and very BB blues sound roll them back to 3.

+1 :D

i think someone else said this (somewhere around the forum),
but the 70's headstock makes the strat looks like some kind of toy
instead of the awesome instrument it really is

I like the larger headstock - it was one of the things that made me look at a HW1. I saw some famous guitar player with one (headstock, not HW1) and always thought it was really cool.

I don't notice that my strings are closer together than any other guitar, and if they are, it's such a small difference. Certainly does not affect playability.

I really like my HW1. It's got the best neck I've personally ever played - I had more cash to spend, but I kept coming back to the HW1.

Very, very happy with mine. I have 2002 that is pre-Greasebucket and pre-upgrades though I think the p/u's were replaced as the middle one is reverse wound.

Same thing with me. I have a 2005 Pre-grease and pre-upgrades. I built mine off from ebay (stratosphere store by reliablefender) with a maple neck instead. I think it's the best combination for me.

If you ever have a chance to get a highway body, swap the neck out with an american standard maple neck. They should fit. Mine did.
