So I just changed the strings on my strat, and now it seems like I'm getting a lot of strings buzzing on the higher (i.e., closer to the body) frets. Is there something I could have done wrong just changing strings? I used the same gauge as the old ones, of course.

Just wondering.

It's when fretted - forgot to mention that.

If you float the tremolo, this can be normal. No string sets are exactly the same tension. My Strats do it, and a little tweaking will get it back to normal. Sometimes my action gets higher. I have a piece of pickguard I put under the back of the bridge and then tighten the trem springs. I then tune to pitch, remove the piece of pickguard and release tension until the guitar is in tune. This balances the string to spring tension and puts the bridge in the same place after every string change. Kind of obsessive, but that's just me. Oh, and after the strings break in period, you might have to do it again.

That's exactly what I was wondering - maybe the bridge is riding a little lower now. I'll adjust after things have broken in a bit.

Thanks!

My advice is buy a cheap feeler gauge and a 6" rule in 64ths. If you shop around you should easily pickup both for under $20.

Then you can measure your string height on each string and relief. Write it down and keep in a notebook or the case.

Once your guitar is setup and playing well it only takes a quick check to go ahah relief isn't the same. Then you can work of if its climate or just needs a tweak to the truss rod.
