Same as JPD, Fender Fan, married (too long?), wife says 3 is enough, I say the sky's the limit.

Yes it is, anyone who thinks otherwise is probably living by themselves. To me as a landscape artist, playing the guitar brings me the same enjoyment as my artwork. You loose the sense of time and when that happens your at peace with yourself.

What I haven't seen mentioned here is that a large collection of guitars is also like money in the bank. Sure, there's been times the wife was like "another guitar???".

But then there's those other times a lot of us have experienced. Those times when money, for one reason or another, suddenly gets real tight and having a guitar to sell can be a real life saver. Or when you see some beauty hanging on the wall that you just have to have. All you have to do is unload a couple of guitars you don't use so much and you can buy that beauty. I've done both a few times. Believe me, the wife was pretty happy about my collection during those tight times. And she always promises that we'll save up to replace them.

You're not seriously suggesting that the wood used in guitars is a significant user of timber are you?

I think things like newsprint and disposable nappies might have a slightly larger role to play eh?

Regardless, chopping down timber isn't the problem. Burning it and not replanting it is.
