Just my 2cents but if you get the Deluxe there is really no reason to buy another strat for life. That is unless you step up and tell the Custom Shop, "I'm Ready!" :)

I have 2. One Tele and one Strat. I used to have a second AD Strat before I decided to cull the herd. I've owned Mexicans, Japanese, Koreans, American Standards (& Series) and American Deluxes and I've also tried a few vintage re-issues without buying. For me, no Fender satisfies in every respect the way the ADs do.
Go for it.
(my 2 cents)

So much to think about. I do feel like I would be settling to get the Am. Std. That in itself is an odd problem to have.

I will have to think about it. I want the Deluxe but have the Std. on order already . . . I will wait to hear what the store has to say about changing the order.

hmmm

I think they'll say wait til your American Standard comes in ("it's an
excellent guitar...") then order an AD for an early (or late  )
Christmas present! Problem solved.

You can find some sweet deals on used or clearance Am Dlx nowadays

The soft V neck was worth the extra $$ to me alone.

It is truly overkill for me and I did get it with the thinking this will be the last one I buy. With the exception of a NOS MIM Powerhouse strat, that "logic" has worked for about a year so far.

It hurts the wallet up front, but biting the bullet and getting the Dlx has saved me from accumulating more lesser $$$/quality toys that would have surely added up to more than the extra couple hundred of $$ I spent getting the Am Deluxe.

Try to find a nice clean used or demo Dlx and I think you will be happy

Didn't know the AS line came with a heavier trem block

Yes they do - but it looks like the Deluxe has the high-mass block now also, so I guess its no longer an issue!

I saw them ('last year's models')at a Sam Ash in L.I. about 3 weeks ago. If I recall the were $1199.99.

I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for delivery on an American Standard Strat. During this time, I have given some thought to changing my order to an American Deluxe Ash (aged cherry w/ rosewood.)

Either way I know I will have to wait and wait. The Deluxe will probably take even longer to get and will cost a few hundred more.

I would love some feedback. This might be the only American guitar I buy for a very long time. I have played both models at GC and fell in love instantly with the neck on the Deluxe; it actually took me by surprise.

My question, is the Deluxe worth the extra, or do you think I will be just as pleased with an Am. Std?

Deluxe is SOOOO worth it. I played the new 2010 Deluxe with its compound radius and extra refinement. What a machine! I could play that guitar for hours. Looks Awesome and feels even better. Standards are great, but WOW, the deluxe is the ticket if you have the money!

I guess the question comes down to "Am. Std. or Am. Deluxe" and the answer seems to be "yes."

I appreciate all this feedback. It makes me realize that I really do want that Deluxe.
