My vote is for maple. I like the contrast.

The chrome pickups make the Maple neck look fine on this guitar, because it follows all the way down to the bridge (chrome tuners, frets, pickups, bridge). But it looks weird on the first guitar in my opinion. Still have to say Rosewood for my taste.

Hey Shredd6, Ya I never thought about that, but the maple on the guitar with the humbucker and all chrome does stand out nice and set off the Maple. I am leaning toward the Rosewood but will see what the final vote is here. My Rosewood neck is mint and my Maple neck has a little ding on the back and the finished did the dreaded Maple peel in a few places, so I had to sand and spray some lacquer to seal it. So there are a few small light spots that are not too noticeable. Seems like a mint neck should go on a mint body....but then again.....ummmm......

Maple, absolutely.

I have a black-on-black Telecaster with a maple neck. It looks divine. Your incipient Strat promises to be a stunning guitar if you'll throw the maple neck on.

Hi, I just finished wiring up another custom Plus with an Ultra setup. These pictures were taken in haste in my guitar work shop, so they are not the quality I usually put out on the web. This guitar is mint. One problem...... Which way to go on necks? Please give me your thoughts... I have two same year matching necks—one Maple, one Rosewood. Which do you think looks the best on a Black on Black :?: :?:

Its all about taste, but I'm a huge rosewood fan.

Just caught up to this one. Another beauty to add to your awesome herd.
I'll go with Lite'nin Hopkins on this one. We two Gilmour owners...as well as David....chose the maple. In a dark board, I'd shoot for ebony if anything. The other issue not entered into here yet is the subtle tonal differences between maple and other woods...i.e. is this a one piece maple, or maple board, on maple, vs rosewood on maple. :?
Doc.

Ebony - with small red fret dots to bring out the red in the body.

Thanks for everyone's input. Ebony is out because I do not have a neck like that and since this is a Strat Plus I want to use a Plus neck. Only Ebony would be an Ultra neck and those are pretty hard to come by! ($$$$ too!)

I like the maple on it.

I bought an Ultra neck on ebay a few months ago. The guy said it was in good shape, but the fret board had some cracks in it. He said it must of happened in shipping, but the way they were I don't see how that would of happened. But UPS ended up cutting me a check for it. So I got my money back, but no neck. I can't remember what I paid though, about $300 I think.

Ebony is known for that. it does crack, I think its because its hard and not as flexible as rosewood or maple.. if it dries out too much it will be sucseptable to cracking

Don't you just love ePay hassles!!! Cracked from shipping? i doubt it. Like the neck I sold to a guy. I checked the truss rod on the bench and it turned freely. After he got it, he told me I sold it to him with a stripped nut. When I told him no way, he became abusive and threatening (wonder if he personality had anything to do with what happened to the neck? Ummm..) When I got it back, it had flakes of metal all over down inside the adjustment hole from being stripped and the rod was turned so tight that it would not move. Paypal and eBay got me my money back.....what a hassle.

Yeah I sometimes sell my old computer hardware on there too, but that's a pain sometimes. Cause you sell it to people who might not know what they're doing.

I sold an laptop hard drive I didn't need anymore, was working fine when I sent it, guy gets it and says it doesn't work. I tell him I'll refund the money if he send it back, minus shipping. I get it back and it works fine.

And that happened one other time with a motherboard/cpu/combo.

Yeah they sound great for everything I do. And the way it's wired really gives you a lot of options.

I'm not a great player and in reality, I could get by with just the one guitar wired like that, but what fun is it only having 1 guitar. :)
