Good luck getting that paint off. Now you see why it last so long. Like a hard plastic wrapper. Might just as well make the bodys out of molded plastic.

yepp...I was really pissed somehow because even the MIM had less undercoat. In 2009 the american standards were advertised with "thinner" finish. I wonder how much thinner they got...

Willie's guitar takes a kickin and keeps on tickin.

The finish on a road worn feels soooooooooooooo nice say what you will about the look.

well I have a 2005 American Standard Hardtail and want to repaint my body. you know why? not because nitro is cool and I can age it better or I want another cool color...it's because of the tone!!

How do you know painting it with nitro will make the tone better?

I agree, because I have played guitars into relics and alot of the wear depends on HOW you play,as to where your hands and body rubs off the finish, and when I pick up a relic'd guitar it feels artificial because I didn't do it.
Kind of like wearing your brother's worn out clothes.

For me, Trigger is an absolute work of art.

Natural wear is where it's at. Especially when you are the one wearin' it
It silently reveals your experience in a language not so readily understood.
Each one is unique.

Break it in and wear it out.
Factory relic'd guitars just don't do it for me.

oh I wouldn't say "better"...rather different. Thin finishes IMO resonate better. If the poly would have been applied thinner...much thinner than my strat the vibrations of the strings would resonate the body better. but I am really talking about nuances here. when I first played my strat back in 2005 I really loved what I heard. The more you play your guitar (and other guitars) you know what nuance is missing..

so in MY case it can only get "better" :)

Question about the MIM standard 2009, does anybody know if the poly finish is clear coat over white or if the poly itself is white? I was thinking of stripping the poly off if it's clear over white and layering clear nitro on instead, but if the finish itself is the color then it'd be a more complicated job i think.
