Hi i was wondering how do guitars get this much wear, is it just playing or banging them about, and is it the sleeve of the player that wears the bottom left of the guitar?

Thanks Harry

You buy it relic'd :D

It just happens through years and years of use 'n abuse. Guitars in that condition have been an amazing instrument for someone. They have a story behind them. One day I hope I own a strat in such shape, through my own fault :P

Check out Rory Gallagher's signature strat if you have a moment.

It also depends on the finish. Don't get a guitar with an indestructible poly finish if you'd like your guitar to wear in that way.

That depends on the model (or at least, the finish on the model). Do you know what kind of strat you have?

Oh and hardware really starts to degrade fast if you do not take care of it properly (as is the case with my guitar) You can almost see it in my photo. The saddle where I rest my hand most often has oxidized quite bad already.

Sad reminder that we are not getting any younger.

Nice guitar and i know what you mean about hardware and stuff,

Do you have any rust on your pickups?

I do and i probably play my guitar for at least 3 hours everyday, i just love it, I mainly play my strat but i also have a tele, also hoping to get another strat soon.

Harry,

Unfortunately (but not so unfornutately), your guitar has the finish as I've described. Poly finishes are meant to keep guitars exactly as yours is: beautiful.

You'd have to deliberately treat the guitar badly to result in any damage to the finish, which you obviously don't want. As a suggestion, if you do plan on getting another guitar in the future, get one with a nitro finish. That'll give you that nice worn look that you desire.

Hope that helps,

Chris

Thanks alot for the advice, and i'm very dissapointed with that, as it being my first strat, i wanted it to kinda wear and grow old as i did, as i am only 14 now.

Do many new guitars even have the Nitro finish anymore, im not sure?

The American Specials/Highway 1's are both excellent guitars for the dollar, and both include the nitro finish (though I believe they actually have a poly undercoat :? ).

You could check out the American Vintage Series, but at 14 years old I'd be rediculously happy with an American Standard as it is :P

Their specs are based on the most legendary guitars of all time  All strats today are a copy, if you think about it.

I stand corrected. American specials don't have the nitro finish.

Anyway, nevermind all the jibberish I've been feeding you. If you want a new guitar it's important to play many different ones before you can come to an educated decision. Hit up a few stores and have fun with it

If you think your Poly coated Fender will ever look like that you will need to be about a hundred years old and play 6 gigs a week.

I played my 1998 strat 6 nights a week since 1998 and it still looks like new.
