This is not a big deal, but I am curious. Does anyone know if Fender changed the color "Candy Green?" I own a 2001 Clapton Strat. About 2 years ago I saw another Candy Green Clapton Strat. The hue was different.

I noticed at the time that one of the Clapton Strats had a "warmer" hue to it (gold flake in the paint). The other Clapton Strat had a "cooler" hue to it (Silver flake in the paint).

I'm deployed right now so I can't look at mine, and I don't remember which was which. Unfortunately the photo in the paint section isn't very clear on the subject.

Any thoughts or knowledge on this paint difference.

If I'm remembering correctly the original metallic green color on the EC was referred to as "7-Up green" because Eric evidently handed someone at Fender a 7-Up can and said "I want this color green". I think it is the earlier color that is more "golden" and the later color is more "silver", but I could have that reversed. I haven't seen a green Clapton in the flesh in about 10 years.

I also believe that the green color might have gone away for a year or two; when it returned it was called "candy green" and that is when the change happened. Maybe the owners of 7-Up complained about the color being a trademark infringement or something, resulting in the change.

Thanks for the info. I had to special order the guitar, the color and wait a month because Fender didn't have any in stock.

In a way my Strat was custom made for me.

I think your right about the color changes over the years. I prefer the golden hue over the silver. It's a great guitar.
