So what is the verdict on the 2010 American Deluxe Strat? Particularly, what do you think of the N3 pickups? Can they nail a vintage Strat bell like tone (2 or 4 tone position)? Or do the noiseless pickups still fall into the "generic" sounding category that many claimed was the sound the SCN pickups produced? I'd love to hear your opinions. How does this model sound vs. the more vintage strats such as a American Hot Rod Series?

I have the 09 American Deluxe Stratocaster.

As far as the pups are concerned, Bill Lawrence SCN's...i think they are awesome.

In regard to the 2010 Deluxe, I am also keen to hear what other people have to say about the N-3's.

So far for the 2010 dlx the only thing that I don't like are the perloid fretboard dot inlays. they look cheap...

Anyway here is something for now... :)

The N3's produce some amazing sounds and great tone IMO. Prior to the 2010 Deluxe I have always classified myself in the "no hum-no tone" category, but the new deluxe strat is an awesome guitar. During this purchase it came down to the '69 hot rod strat or the 2010 deluxe and I ended up with the deluxe. Now I'm not saying that the deluxe is a better guitar than the hot rod. I just ended up deciding to go the more modern route. I still plan on getting the '69 hot rod.

Now as far as do they sound like vintage strats...I don't know they are all a little different, but the deluxe strats certainly sound like a strat. You can get some great clean tones, some gritty blues, and even some heavy metal sounds. They accept distortion better than vintage style strats and are much more versatile, but if you were just looking for a vintage sound you might end up leaning towards a different model.

I really couldn't see anyone being unhappy with the 2010 deluxe and I plan on keeping mine for life.

Now go to the music store and play the thing already.

Fender has done a great job regarding R & D as of late. They seem to be listening and responding IMO. Moving forward technologically.

The N3's are everything but generic, especially with the S-1 switching.

I got a Deluxe Ash couple of weeks ago, N3 were off the guitar after 2 days. It's no Strat tone if you ask me... don't get me wrong, they do sound good, just not Strat good, which is the main reason I got this new Strat. The highs are not there and playing an open low E sounds dead, that was enough of a turn off for me. Even with the treble all the way up it wasn't bright enough for me, rarely do I turn the treble all the way up with my other Strats. Dont get me wrong, I love a warm tone, my #1 is a 335, also have a LP and couple other "warm" guitars, but when I buy a Strat I want to hear that sparkle! so, N3= not enough highs and no tight bass.

I wish I did a short recording before I removed them to help you out.

You bass-turds!!

I thought I was done with GAS! Stop it! I don't want to hear about new and improved noiseless pups.

(plugging my ears) Bla-bla-bla-bla-blah!!!!! Nananana !!! No-no-no-no!!!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hi Everybody, I bought an ash deluxe stratocaster and an deluxe reverb reissue amp brand new last november and, mine has the strat sound i was hoping for. the highs are bright i get a knopfler like twang out of it with bridge and mid pup on. i rarely use the s-1 switch on it cos i love the twangy fender sound that the guitar delivers. i know that this thread is about the 2010 models so, i just wanted to let you ppl know how much i love mine and damn glad i bought one.

I agree with this. I'm not sure if I've really messed with the S1 switch since the first time or two playing. Wasn't really a big fan of those sounds but they're there if you ever want them. Also, I love the neck/fretboard. It might be my favorite of any strat I've ever played. The compound radius wasn't very noticeable to me. I'm not entirely sure I would have noticed had I not known but it definitely plays smooth.

I've already got a Hot Rod 62 and Eric Johnson Strat - might the American Deluxe with the N3s be a nice complement to these two models? Or is it too sterile sounding? I like the look of the Candy Apple Red American Deluxe with the V Neck (maple neck). Of course I'd also like to get a Custom Deluxe Strat with the 69 pickups.

I'm going to be checking out a Custom Deluxe in a couple of days, to see if I like these 69 pups I keep hearing about... so far, for my taste, my Deluxe with the Fralins has the sweetest tone I ever heard on a Strat.

Since I just got an EJ Strat as well, I found the pickups to be a bit soft, but they do seem to come to life when the vol is at 8 or higher, found that out today, so I'm still getting used to it I guess...

Got an '09 Am Stndrd recently, on trying it I instantly thought it was just an awesome sounding guitar - and it is.

Tried the 10 Am Dlx last week - nothing special tone-wise - thought it was rather ho-hum in comparison, even on the same amp as mine (Delta Blues).

Nice looker though!

I played this strat and I must say, I aboslutely love the feel and tone from this guitar. If I had the money, I surely would of bought the one I picked up off the showroom floor. Tonal wise is just as good if not better than anything I've played out there. Best part is the guitar is quiet!!!!

I have a 2012 American Dlx with N3 pups and it sounds and plays fantastic. However, it definitely does not have the bell-like tone vintage strats have, or even modern single-coil ones, for that matter.

Try lowering them until they sound right.
