I know the title sounds funny.
I just bought this 2007 USA Strat guitar and noticed when I play the g string open I can hear a little ringing sound. If I touch the string between the tuner and the nut it goes away. Is this a problem with the nut?

That string is the furthest away from the nut without a string tree and may not have enough of a downward angle to keep tight against the nut.

What I do on mine (even though it has locking tuners) is simply wind more string on the two middle strings to increase that angle.
I don't know if that is a common thing or not, but it's become my standard method.

These are the stock strings that come with the guitar. What you said makes sense. Thanks!
Did you once have the same problem? Do you think adding another string tree would help?

I'm pretty sure I had that same problem to a lesser degree.
You probably have the locking tuners too. These are great, but allow you to wind very little string around the post when stringing it up.
I bet getting a new set and stringing them up as I suggested will do the trick.
