I own an American Deluxe strat and I've been hearing things about the scn pickups being on the darker side. I was thinking if it's possible to brighten the sound by changing the volume or tone pots. Forgive my ignorance, I don't really know how pots effect the sound generally this is just from reading from different forums. Would replacing the 250k pot with a 500k pot brighten the sound? And can I do this while keeping the S1 switch intact?

Do you think it sounds dark?

According to this, 250K pots are what are used with SCNs (and S-1):

I know that's what's used, I was asking what would happen if I replaced them. And again I've read reviews that say it sounds darker because it has less of the fender vintage sound. Anyway I do like my guitar, I'm just thinking of ways where I can customize it and make it sound better.

Yes, it might sound brighter.

Yes, you might like it.

If you are happy with the tone now, I wouldn't do it.

By the way, I am getting ready this weekend to replace the stock pups in my '09 MIM Standard Strat with SCN's. I have no plans to replace the pots.
