Hey guys, i recently bought a brand new Black VG Strat with a rosewood fretboard. However I've noticed the whenever i'm using the Roland pickup the high e-string is noticeably quieter than the other stings.

Would raising the pickup help or using heavier strings help? Or is it possible I got a dud?

 Wow. I mean I know they discontinued them but, are they bad guitars? I just liked it for the versatility it had over my 69' Reissue Mustang.

I don't have a VG, but I have a synth guitar with a Roland pu, so may be able to help.

Are the strings new? Old ones can sound a bit dull.

Next thing is setup. The Roland pu has to be set up nice and close to get the max sound. This means that after you have set up the guitar bridge and neck as you like it, then you go in and move the Roland up and down to get it even with the strings. I have not seen the setup on a Fender, but on my guitar I have do this with the strings off, and then put them back on, remeasure, take off.... gets really busy. After that though, I can pretty well leave them alone unless I change gauge of string or if there is a bad weather change that needs a neck adjustment.

Then after all that, the synth modules need to be calibrated to the strings. There is a setup button on there that allows you to pluck a string, and it gives you a relative numerical value for the vibrations it is picking up. eg, hit the first string and you see a '1' on the readout, that is pretty low. You can then adjust the sensitivity on the module itself, say up to 5 or 6, and from then on that string will be read with a bit more sensitivity. I set my middle four up to a higher reading, the first and sixth string slightly lower. Experiment and see what sounds are right for you. Find a nice balance and you don't have to fool with it again until you change strings.

And last, my synth pu uses small screws to move up and down under the strings. When I get it where I like the mix, I take a toothpick with a small drop of fingernail polish and dab it on the threads of the screws that stick out below the pu lower plate, sealing it in place. No chance of them coming loose and changing your settings due to vibration, but comes off easily when you need to change things.

Hope that is a start for you!

Well the the VG isn't a midi guitar and uses a regular guitar cable directly to the amp. But I'll try adjusting the height of the string and pickup. Thanks :)

Well I tried lowering the string and adjusting the Roland pickup and it seems to work much better! Thanks :D
