Some months ago, I shielded my strat. Clean sound, no noise.

Always keep it clean. As well trying to keep the same temperature in the room it mostly stands in when not in use. :D

Plays a lot. Every day. Rock'in a classic 70, 3-Color Sunburst Maple.. First electric guitar I've had.

What's up with your strats? :P

How did you shield your strat? I have an old MIM Standard Strat that I tweaked to sound really dirty, which I love, but the noise coming from the pickups is sometimes unbearable.

My strat is never cleaned, polished, or left dust free. I allow it to breath and let the usage show itself so anyone who sees it knows that guitar is not a piece of art, but a tool for creating art. (But it still looks pretty sweet!)

First thing you do, find some copper-tape/shielding-tape on a guitar store or something

Next step is to remove the pickguard, the jack-input and the cover-plate for the tremolo if you want to do it like I did. But the most important thing is to make a good shielding round the pickups. I just shielded round the tremolo and made a better connection between the tremolo and ground, just to be sure I've done a god job.

This thing is realy simple. Just cover the inside of the guitar, the holes under the pickups with sheald-tape and insert a small cable between the area you covered with tape and ground on the jack. (Tip: If you do it like one big connected area you can avoid a mess of ground-cables.)

Then you can shield the inside of the pickguard. Just make sure that you have a good connection to ground.

Sorry if I don't explain well. But you can google it or find it on youtube.

After I plugged in my strat again was a silent moment. And it's a clear tone to. No noise who ruins my effects and dives. :D

Last word: recommended!

The day when the paint-job on your strat looks ugly and worn out. I shall respekt you for having an old guitar. 8)

Like road worn guitars as long as you don't smash them in the ground, during a concert! That makes me mad..

i agree...wiping down my fretboard/body paint once every few weeks is probably the most i clean mine. but i also have a MIM strat, when i get my american one it may be a different story. i personally like those wall hanger things, seems like theyd be good for keeping the guitar out of harms way/falling over. i accidentally kicked over my martin acoustic this morning getting out of bed, i always immediately run over and apologize to my guitars they fall or get hit in any way and then i realize what i'm doing and feel like an idiot haha.

Ahh man - that sucks!! It was Ok I assume?!?

I leave the couple (always the newer ones) I play most out on stands, and I do worry - but the convenience so far has outweighted my fears! Though I did have a chair get tipped into my MIM - not a good thing!

i dont want to sound cliche'd but better is subjective. what kind of sound are you looking for? blues, metal, hard rock etc?
