Yes, all of them had Gold Lace Sensors. I believe the change to the Vintage Noiseless was made in 2001.

The change to Vintage Noiseless officially occurred in 2001.

In fact, Clapton began using VNs in his personal guitar as of March 6, 2000. Since that time he played Lace-equipped guitars mostly for slide.

The Tsunami Aid charity show with Jools Holland held at Cardiff in 2005 is without doubt one of the rarest occasions EC played a regular Blackie with Lace Sensors. I would guess that's probably the same guitar used during the Japanese Pilgrim tour of 1999, a Masterbuilt Blackie crafted by Jay W. Black.

The early Clapton Strats with the Lace Sensors are starting to increase in value. These guitars are ideal for the late 1980s-early 1990s stuff (Journeyman, 24 Nights), making 'em suitable for use with a pair of Soldano SLO-100s.

I ordered a Candy Green ED Strat through a music store in VA in January 2001. I had to wait a month because they didn't have any Candy Green bodies in stock. When I pulled it out of the box it had 3 gold Lace Sensors.

It wasn't till a few months later that I had even heard about the change over.

It's beautiful and sounds great.

On the thread dealing with Lace Sensors, I explain about the change over to the Fender Noiseless Pickups. Here is an interesting add from 1988 showing the first generation EC Strat. Image

First one I ever played was a red one. Around that date and time at the Long and McQuade store in Parsippany, New Jersey. May have even been earlies. Had my two young sons along with me at the time and couldn't get 2 seconds worth of peace to figure out what that curious tone pot was that was making the volume louder. It, of course, was the midboost. Now I've got an '89 pewter in a low serial number. Love those Laces. They give that guitar 'moxie;!!

Too cool ZZ. I have one too. What do you consider to be a low serial number? Here are some snaps of mine. I was playing this last Thursday night and the battery died. Lasted a really long time. Great tone.

I have only played the black one w/ LS...I don't care for VNs. I want the green w/ LS. real bad. I love that green/maple combo.

Here's a video of him using a black Strat with Lace Sensors at the Crossroads Guitar Festival.

Ah yes. Relegated to setup for slide....but definitely not a 'second fiddle'.. I betcha those Lace Sensors are giving him just the gutsy kind of tone he wants for that set.

Like i mentioned about my visit with Jeff Lace a couple days ago, he mention that the idea of keeping Fender's pickups in-house and not promoting Lace pickups (a secondary vendor) on Fender's top line guitars (AKA, Custom Shop, Strat Plus Series and Signature series), that it was just a matter of time before Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton Signature guitars moved over to use Fender's new pickups. In fact, Lee Dixon, Clapton's guitar tech insisted on it for some reason.

The question I have, is why would Lee Dixon insist on it? What was going on with that??? Personally, and this is just my own preference, but the Fender noiseless pickups are just too glassy and bright for me. I owned a 2000 DX Strat (replacement for the Strat Plus DX/Ultra guitars) and kept it like 2 weeks and then sold it. I tried and tried to get to where I liked it and just gave up. There are a lot of other pickups I like, DiMarzio, Seymour Duncan, etc....But just have not been sold on the Fender Noiseless or the Vintage Noiseless. I have had both.

I had SCN's in a Clapton circuit in a CS guitar they build for me about six years ago. I've spoken about that guitar often, and the issues surrounding it. For purposes of this discussion suffice it to say that they worked quite well in that midboost circuit. However, if I ever had TK build a Clapton-based guitar for me it would have Laces in it.

That's a nice Clapton Strat Xhefri. That's the kind I want. I had a newer Clapton strat for 2 days, but sold it to get the Strat Plus Deluxe I have. I want a late 80's Pewter one though. When I bought my pewter strat plus in 1988 I bought the pewter one because it looked like Clapton's and I couldn't afford the Clapton model.
