I removed my whammy from all of my Fenders, bolted the bridge down. I love the warped out sounds which is why I have an assortment of pedals but I'm not exactly Andy Summers who LIVES on his whammy! Is there anyone else out there who prefers to remove their W?

No way will I remove mine. I like the sound and the look of my tremolo bar.

Sky, how did you bolt down the bridge? I've removed my Tremolo as well and I'm looking to fix the bridge.

The very reason my main guitar is a Strat is for it's whammy bar. When properly set-up, it will play stable and tonefully sustain at, or very near that of a hardtail bridge.
It would also be nice if Fender once again offered a hardtail version of the American made Stratocaster. A Strat with a hardtail is perfect for rhythm and more agressive styles of playing.

Sorry mate - I love my wang bar old boy. I use it more to add a touch of vibrato and modulation to chordings as opposed to serial dive bombing though!

I use my whammy a lot, I'd never get rid of it completely. One of the main reasons to get a strat in my opinion is for the whammy, not because it looks cooler or there's more you can do to dial in your specific tone. When my whammy isn't on I push down on the bridge real hard and it sounds like a nice bend, but I also like to pull it up from the other side. It's much easier to achieve to the same results with a bar tho.

I don't like how my whammy rattles when I want to do bends both ways. I'll just get a guitar with a modern 2 point trem for that tho. Can't wait.

Experiment with the whammy. I thought I wouldn't use it, but now I can't see how I could live without it. (Unless I'm playin ruthm and chord on me Tele! )

Yeah u saw it. I put two winks in one post. 8)

Me too. Sometimes instead of striking a power chord 3 times, I'll strike it once and pump my tremolo bar down twice to get DA DA DA sound. It rocks. 8)

I don't use my trem that much, but I like to add a little surf flair.

But if you don't like trem you could always try slide. Same sound, but in my opinion harder and way less comfortable. Depends on the person I suppose.

I don't use my trem but I don't remove it. I have mine "blocked" on both of my strats. This helps transfer the vibrations to the body for a more solid sound. Clapton sets up a lot of his guitars this way as do many other players. Give it a try and see if you like it. It's simple to do and easy to change.

I have my vintage style tremelo Strats set up with 4-5 springs to keep it in tune. I dont use the vintage style tremelo due to tuning problems. I have them set up perfectly, but like to do my own work, and have found tuning problems reguardless of set-up prep. I have a Strat with a 2-point tremelo which stays in tune much better, and I utilize that quite a bit. I also have a HM Strat with a Kahler Spyder locking trem, and that is used for dive-bomb type sounds with good results. You never see Steve Vai with a vintage style tremelo.

I have no problem with the vintage trems. It's good enough for Clapton, Mayer, SRV, Buddy Guy, Eric Johnson...I guess it's ok for me too. Oh yeah, I can't imagine owning a strat without the trem arm.
