Okay I have a quick re-finish question.

Does the type of sanding sealer and primer make much difference to a re-finish job?

I am going to use Sherwood Green nitrocellulose lacquer for the color coat and a nitrocellulose clear coat for the finish. I will get those from re-ranch.

I wanted to try and get the sanding sealer and primer locally if possible.

Here is a link to what sanding sealer is available to me locally:

http://www.lowes.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&productId=3044471&cId=SEARCH

I also could use a recommendation on a primer that would be available at a hardware store, or lowes, homedepot, or walmart.

Thanks!

Just make sure they're Nitro based and you'll be fine. You can just use some white lacquer, no need for a special primer.

seal it, then paint it white, a couple coats. then go with the colour coat.

stuff sold as primer basically fills the role of the sealer, while also providing a consistent colour to paint over. If you use sanding sealer, or vinyl sealer, then primer is a wasted step. You just need to paint white, which covers the grain, and makes the colour coat turn out uniform. it also makes it easier to see how evenly your colour coat is covering.

I used B-I-N Shellac primer sealer, it came in a spray can from Home Depot - worked great.

Shellac is an excellent option. it is compatible with a myriad of finishing products. its easy to apply too.

ideally you would want to mix your own, as it does have a shelf life,
and you can control its viscosity and other features. However the pre mixed stuff is fine(the one he mentions has an excellent reputation, and would be a good option for you.), just look for dates on the package, different formulations can last anywhere from 6 months to around 3 years. Check the package, some stores don't rotate product properly.
