hello and welcome!

First question I'd have is did you know about the crack prior to buying it? if not, I'd send it back if possible.

I'm not a guitar repair guy, but I'd have to guess it will affect the tone, but more important than that is that it may or may not fail at some point and break all the way. Thats a stress crack possibly from dropping it.

just my .02 cents.... :)

I'd send it back if the seller didnt tell you about that.

I hope you didn't pay a lot for it. I agree, send it back if you can. I really doubt if it will effect the tone unless you're Eric Johnson. He can hear UV rays effecting his tone. :D

is it possible that it is just on the finish? cause the crack is not going all the way to the back of the neck.. well, i bought it used from a private party which don't accept return.. i bought it for a fair price..

It could be. I'd have a good guitar tech take a look at it. I'm no expert on guitars but that looks like it may be a stress crack. Did you notice it before you bought? If the seller didn't disclose it, you may be able to threaten him with small claims court. I obviously worries you otherwise you wouldn't be asking about it.

On a positive note, I'll bet he's happy to sell it. Sorry for you though.

Shouldnt a EJ have a spaghetti logo, not a black one? Or is that just my eyes/ the photo?

It's had some kind of knock that was bad enough to crack the very thin finish like that, i dont think so. It would be going back if it were in my hands. Looks like the guitar has fallen face first against a wall, jolting the headstock backwards. The way it's broken it looks a difficult repair.

Scratch that it's definitely not a finish crack. It would have cracked across the walnut billet if it was. Instead of either side of it.

Look at the other pic. The crack is running down the neck in the middle.

As long as nobody has tried to glue it already, you can take that to a repair tech. They will spread the crack out a bit, and use a hypo needle to squirt thinned out wood glue in the crack and clamp it up. A little cosmetic touches and that thing will look and play fine I think. Guitar rebuilder Ceri I'm sure would know what to do with that.

For a minimal price and piece of mind, take it to a pro shop, have them glue the crack and try to restore the finish. If you really had a great deal on the guitar, it should be worth it.

it does have the spaghetti logo..also it doesn't have the string tree on the headstock.. I have even dissemble everything and look for the authenticity of this guitar..and it is real.. it has all the EJ stamp everywhere..

well, i guess my next step is to bring it to a guitar tech and see what he say about it.. how much do you guys think to repair this kind of damage? i bought it for $960.. i hope i can get some of money back by selling parts of it.. the seller obviously doesn't want me to return it.. he said it wasn't there before..

The seller sounds like a shady character! I don't suppose you or him insured the guitar for shipping damage.
