Seems there are number of hotter pickups available - SC and HB/stacked - even from Fender. I would start there, but it also seems alot of the bodies are pre-routed for HSH - you could swap the pickguard and add a humbucker in 1 or 2 spots.

My new AM Standard is (surprisingly) beefy 'enough' - even next to my Gibson & SD HBs. A little volume adjustment maybe, but otherwise nice tone!

Weak like how? Poor volume, no sustain? Humbucker may not solve the issue. Try another guitar in your setup, maybe this one needs a setup. Could also be your playing technique, pedal, amp... Please give more details.

If you want more bottom end, I like the Texas Specials. They are not Vintage sounding, but they give you some serious bass.Fat 50s would be another choice. What amp are you playing thru? The amp will have a much bigger effect on tone than pickups.

That's exactly what I was about to say. Tweaking the tone knobs on your current amp is a way to help too.

Look at the OP's handle. He craves a Les Paul. I suspect the "weak tone" he refers to may be of the non-humbucker variety? If so, this is a common occurrence. People who normally play bucker equipped guitars often feel somewhat disappointed with the single coil sound. It seems thinner and less forgiving until you realise that it is exactly those properties than makes the single coil sound so special. It takes time to learn to master it and appreciate it. I was the exact opposite. It took me years to learn to like and appreciate the unique sonic textures of humbuckers. Having said that, they both have their place.

My advise to the OP is to do nothing at all except to just play the guitar and get used to it. I don't believe there are any single coils made anywhere that are going to make your Fender sound like a Gibson. If after some time you still cannot appreciate the value of the single coil then maybe you're just not destined to be a Fender man.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Buy an amp with more gain. I can get Angus Young tone out of a high gain amp through my Texas Specials. You're pickups can only do so much. The amp is where the crunch comes from. For a start, adjust your pickup height.
