I think I'd take the Custom '57 over the Am. Standard anyday. There really isn't that much new about the Standard anyway.

Well, you said you were interested in the '57 so I figured you could afford it. I mean come on....a $600 strat or a custom shop strat. If you've got the money you get the custom shop.

I'll grab one as soon as they reach our shores.

Of course not.

Oh yes they did!

How could they?

Read the descriptions on fender.com and see the pics at this Geman dealer.

Many guys said that the new neck is thicker.
Thicker like what? Like a 70´s strat, for example?

Has anyone heard any info on fender updating their AM STD strats in '08? I heard from my local dealer that they will be making changes to them, and the current models will go on clearance.

Has anyone heard any info on this, or what might be changed?

I'm looking....but I'm not seeing anything but a marketing ploy. I think their "improvements" will go straight to their Gross Profit line. I own a MIM 60th edition and there is very little difference at this point. I've got Blizzard Pearl...the colour that was supposed to have been exclusive to the one anniversary edition only....never to be repeated...yeah right! I have the Tex-Mex pups...which you can get as an alternative on the '08 American standard. As far as I'm concerned, there's much less difference between the MIM and American standard now.

you are right... this is just marketing. The change are minor esthetic differences, and personnaly i don't like gloss on the neck. It must play a little better because of the new bridge. I love the blizzard pearl color, but i prefer to pay 500$ on a second hand 60th anniversary MIM.

I just played the new 2008 stratocaster and I must say I liked it alot. I like that they have a thin skin paint and the nes bridge was real good looking. The string was really easy to bend and it played really nice. I liked it alot!

I just got a new American Standard Strat and there are a few changes. The neck is buffed to a high gloss finish and the neck is rolled more to make it easier to slide your hand on. They also said the finish is not as thick and allows the guitar to sound better.

Of course the differences will be subtle. It still needs to be a Stat and that is already a standard design. The new AM Std were introduced at NAMM last week, and I saw them there. Visually nearly identical, with some changes in the bridge and neck edges. If you're one of those detail nuts, then this is big. If not, then just play yer gitar....

I still don't believe they spray the rosewood. I've never seen that before.
