Has anyone heard any info on fender updating their AM STD strats in '08? I heard from my local dealer that they will be making changes to them, and the current models will go on clearance.

Has anyone heard any info on this, or what might be changed?

Yeah, that's absolutely right.

Apparently the chain "Sound Control" have bought all the Uk's allocated stock from Fender and is selling off at amazing deals at the moment.

In the UK the American Std retails at around £799.00,
I have just bought a Black American Std with Maple Neck and Delta-Tone pick up system for £579.00 brand new with moulded case, strap and lead!!!!

I have just made the switch after being a Gibson Les Paul player for years, my god what have I been missing?!!! It's a beautiful guitar and I cannot put it down.

There appears to be something to this. Musiciansfriend.com list the Amer Strat as "Limited Quantity" on hand. I thought maybe it was just for color changes in the new year, but maybe not.

I've seen the ads of the New American Standards.

The only things I can see that're different are the bridge saddles.
They are going back to the "vintage" style (folded steel with "FENDER" stamps) saddles.

I went to the link, there's an announcement but no details. I have to wait three weeks for details? They did the same thing with the XD amps.

When are we going to be 'insiders'?

I miss the days when your only choices in buying a Strat were the finish and fretboards. Vintage tuners were standard issue and you could "notch" the 3-position selector switch to get *that* sound.

I am really not sure how I feel. I finally got my 2007 American Strat for Christmas. Will this make it worth more money down the road, or dirve down the price. I guess time will tell. Either way, I am getting to play a really nice guitar finally!

Yes, you will have to wait until Jan 17 for the details to be revealed! Click on http://www.fender.com/makehistory then.

BigPapaKent, I suppose the "improvements" made to the new American Standards will allow them to raise the price accordingly. That's a pretty standard marketing tact.
